Title says it all really.

The 'surround' and 'slats' just pop out one day. I guess the plastic clips have broken.

Am I right in thinking that the box (with the on/off adjuster) will just come out of that hole (will need a little help as it is a few mm wider than the hole). I guess I can then superglue the thing back up and push it back in. Not too worried about it clipping in properly.

Hopefully, one piccy attached.

All I can say to this one is I have several here in good order, and you are very welcome to visit and remove yourself, but I have not found a successful way of doing it yet, they self destruct, Rick

They will go back together - just takes a little fiddling around and patience. Once it's together super it together to make sure the flaps don't have the opportunity to jump out again.

Put the mechanism back together onto the bezzel that has come out ( it's on your seat ). Use masking tape on the front side of the bezzel to hold all the bits in so that when you offer it back to the frame in your dashboard they don't all fall out everywhere. I use super glue on the outer clips and areas where there are no moving parts to hold the bezzel to the frame so that it don't come apart again.

Mines suffered with this since I've owned it.
The trick is to take the the complete vent and housing out of the dash in one piece to avoid it dropping to bits on removal.

My Maverick one died and stayed dead, I tried to remove on from a breakers yard before and that exploded into parts as well, same as the crappy electric mirror switches as well that you cant remove without losing the innards all over the floor well :doh

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - Tapatalk didn't give me any notifications.

Anyhoo, so this is a common problem it would seem. I initially tried to put it all back together in the bezel but it was clear it was all going to fall out again when trying to insert it.

Is it possible to easily remove the plastic box (1st photo), the thing inside the dash that houses the on/off flap such that it can be all put back together on the bench and then pushed back into place. Or is that a full dash out job?

That's a plastic heater pipe which I would presume to be one piece down to the matrix behind the dashboard which is def avoided if possible, I'd rather fancy my chances taking extreme care and time to try and get it out the same way without breaking it from another car and replacing.

I've got a feeling the first part of that pipe does separate and come out through the hole.:nenau

I think I may have confused you all with a stupendously dumb question.

Here's the box I was asking about. Of course it comes out the front. Because it would normally be attached to the grill that gets inserted from the front. Doh!

Anyway, it's out and it's the least of my worries. New thread starting soon :)

P.S. Thanks Rick for the offer of salvaging one from 'spares department' too.
