i did the trials for the cpc test, a guy came from st ives in cornwall, 7 of us sat in the class room, had a chat, and we had to use lap top computers and answer the questions by picking a,b,c, d, it's piece off cake to do, and it all common sense to be honest, i got a £20.00 food voucher for taking it. as adz said it is another way of getting money from the drivers, my mate will start testing drivers next year i believe. :thumbs:augie

basicly a competence course for lorry drivers. and i think it last for 5yrs iirc, :thumbs

cheers, i dont know much about lorry driving, but when out and about see some bloody incompetent lorry driving so maybe it is aimed at the bad ones and makes the good ones suffer?

Basically LGV and PCV drivers have to do the 35 hours in a classroom every 5 years ... There is no examination as such ... as long as you turn up ... you can't fail ..... That's how ridiculous it is ... you can do 7 hours every year, and in 5 years you've done your course.
More pointless expensive crap !!!
Matt.

Whos going to pay for it?. The driver or the company, Bet i can guess, Same person as the £70, 5 yearly medical.

iirc it's aimed more at the 7.5 t truck drivers who drive these vehicles on their car driving licence, and not hgv driver who have passed the hgv test, but im 100% sure on this. :thumbs

Seems to be similar to here,we do 5 modules (35hours total) over five years,or six modules if you have a bus licence. Cost €55 each module. Basically another way to have EU workers being able to be the same standard throughout Europe. A cynic might think it is an extension of globalisation as drivers from one country will be trained to the same standard as all other European countries. Another Big Brother step towards one world government. The really cynical aspect is that they are using the idea of the amount of fuel that can be saved by good driving habits. They also said it is important for drivers to know what happens regarding the engine during braking ,accelerration etc. If that's what they really believe, all drivers should have engineering degrees. Next step will probably be a course for secretaries so they can understand how the innards of their PC work. As adz said, another way to get money from us.

Lorry drivers.

Driver are the only profession to be punished for working to hard.

Well, there is one more prostitution!, Wonder which one pays the best money? but drivers get taxed on there take home pay, :doh

Does my frigging head in.

Just another way to oppress the workers. Drivers will have to do 7 hours training EVERY year if they want to stay driving, not just every five years. What other profession has to do 7 hours training every year WITHOUT pay and tough luck if you are unemployed for a while because then you will have to pay for the course out of your dole payment. Will it make roads safer, absolutely not. Will it improve driver skills, from the one module I have completed ,definitely not. No matter how well or responsibly a truck/bus driver is,he is only as good as the other road users around him, and he has no way of controlling their behaviour on the roads so trying to improve his skill is a rather pointless exercise. Sorry for the Sunday rant but I believe there are a lot of other things which could be done to improve road safety, one of them being prosecuting councils who do not maintain roads under their control.

crikey it's only £40 at local docs if i pay, £70 if company pays!!

Ours is paid by FirstGroup, as said as long as I turn up.. Cos I passed my test 9 years ago I have grandfather rights, so just have to spent 1 day a year sat being told what I already know.. THEN have to start all over again, the card you have to carry at all times your driving only lasts 5 years.. :doh
