Double DIN stereo removal - MkIII (1999-2002)

Help - can't figure this one out and not sure if someone has in the past.....I know its been discussed but can't find a conclusive thread.

Stereo is the MkIII variant, with single faceplate and integrated hazard switch.

The MkIV is slightly different and easy to get out....the hazard switch is at the top and if you slide a thin blade all the way round the black faceplate it opos out to reveal the mounting screws. Ex-member Pigglet did this write up ages ago.

But this bitching MkIII one has the hazard switch at the bottom and the entire faceplate seems connected to the head unit......it has two small holes, one either side....I assume they are something to do with it, but no idea what to stick in there.....

Any ideas or experience?

Try pieces of wire coat hanger.

there is a "key" fits into the two holes.

ive not removed one but i had a mk111 to try in mine but couldnt code.but i did notice the fixings iit just looked as though you pushed something down the 2 holes and and twisted a lug each side and slid out unit.

Well I cracked it - two long thin allen keys in the holes and out she came.

Except now I have to find a replacement faceplate to upgrade the head unit because the hazard wiring is integrated into the radio loom FFS :doh

Have looked for facia plate on ebay and they are £60 was going to change mine but not at that price. Checked out local motor factors and they dont have them in any of the books

well, where theres a will theres a way.....Ive got a decent Sony head unit in the MkIV which I'm buggered if I'm going to leave behind for a bloody cassette deck and poxy CD changer!

I'm just wondering though.......the MkIV dash moulding would still allow for fitment of the MkIII facia plate and stereo, but I'd need to (i) make sure the wiring loom can connect to it, and (ii) work out how to wire the hazard switch....I suspect the latter is the PITA as the connector for it is in the bleedin head unit FFS, what a shite piece of design....:doh

Thought about making one myself. How did you wire up the hazard switch?
What wires did you connect it into?

just bought another switch the radio has a connector that goes into hazard loom.just had to remove clip and they push together.

so let me get this straight; the plug from the hazard that goes into the head unit fits straight into what, a standard Nissan hazard switch? And where did you mount the switch?

Yup fits in after you remove clip that secures together.i mounted hazard switch above stereo.
