hi guys

I am having a problem with the door contact sensor points on each door. my warning light on the dash keeps on intermitantly, yet the door seems closed. is it a common fault and is their a easy fix for it. I have looked at the contacts and they seem ok, not damaged or loose. it seems to be the rear door i think as the interior rear light comes on as well.

I can't remember what it's like but some pin switches on doors press on to a rubber pad and the rubber pad wears. Sometimes you can add a small rubber pad to ensure the switch is pushed far enough.

I had same problem on my Mav, It was the plunger on the back door. I am not sure why, but the door didnt seem to push the pin switch 'home' enough. To solve the problem I cut some rubber pads, about 1" in dia and stuck them on to the door. One at first, but didnt really seem to be enough, so stuck another to that. I would say depth of rubber pads would be 2mm each, so 4mm of pad on there now and seems to work fine.

Used to drive me crazy, because not only does it mean the light is on on the dash but so are your interiour lights unless you turn them off, but then you cant see in the dark.

Cheers

Hi i had this on my maverick 1997 swb went back to ford loads of times when it was new and they kept replacing door switches but the interior light would still flicker on especially when the car was on a lean. After checking it out myself i found that the metalwork on the pillar was slightly pushed in (probably due to door being shut with seat belt on it). I removed switch and used a slide hammer to gently pull out metalwork all sorted . Hope this helps Regards Mark

I think the solution is as already been said, add some double sided tape pads or something similar on door where it contacts it. it pushes the contact in more and turning off the sensor. any other similar repair will do the same job.
