Hi,my 01 sport Terrano shows the door open symbol illuminated all the time on the dashboard and the interior lights don't light when the blip is pressed or the doors opened. Are the two problems linked? I have replaced all the door switches with a known working one and the interior light switches are correctly positioned. Has anyone any ideas on fixing these two problems? Thanks. Richard

As with any negative switching interior light issue the first port of call would be the pin switches but you got that covered.

the interior lights require a ground from the switches or from the alarm brain too come on automatically.

first thing too do would be too pop off the interior light, take a multi meter or powerprobe, and see if there is a 12v+ feed, then check the other wires too see if any change state when you press or depress the pin switch, you will be looking for -12v too open circuit when door closed or +12v when door closed. there will also be a constant ground wire.

if you do get a response from the pin switch but nothing showing +12v up there then suspect a fuse.

the door open light on the dash is connected too the pin switches and will more than likely be through your alarm control box.

if you find that there is a constant ground at the light and no pin switch makes a diffrence then look at the current that can pass through the ground and inspect the wiring too the pin switches, could be a short circuit some where.

hope this helps you
regards

sure someone else had this problem and it was sagging back door not pushing switch home all way

Door open light on dashboard.

Thank you for that info, I gave some duff information, the interior lights are on constantly if in the door open light position. I there for suspect it's a fault with the alarm control box. Any one any idea where that is situated, or is it a replaceable item, does the blip locking key have to be re set if a new unit is put in? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

from what i can see, the drivers door pin switch is a stand alone switch, then all others are linked together,

have you tried what i suggested up top?
if so what were your findings?

another test would be too remove all pin switches from the car chasis, and leave them dangling, if the light stays on then you have an issue either with a short, or the control module.

you may also have too check that the timer unit is recieving all signals, ie 12volts + and ignition12+ and trace back from there.

Hello, have removed all pin switches and the light went out , great. its a start. The light would come on again whenever one of the pin switches was reconnected except for the back door.I got + and - readings from the light roof switch. So what do you suggest now? Many thanks. Richard.

Ps where is the timer unit, any idea what it looks like? richard.

PPS. The roof light also goes out with the pin switches removed when set on 'light on when door open'. So the fault is where????????????. Richard.

More trial and error. The dashboard door open light and roof light now go out when rear door and drivers doors closed with the pin switches in and switches out of other 3 doors. What do you think? Richard.

hiya,

could you condense all of the above for me, kinda having trouble working out what you mean,

see if this helps.

1: all doors and pinswitches in and closed, light on and dash light on?
2: all pin switches out doors open lights off?
3:drivers door switch out but all others in and closed, light on or off?
4:drivers door in and closed but all others out, light off or on?

if the light is off with driver and boot closed and working i would suggest the fault is with one of the other pin switchs, although you say they are new do you know if the are getting full contact with the door too pen them right up?

if you can answer the 4 questions above i can guide you better.

regards

Many thanks for your help, through your suggestions I have cracked it. Although all the pin switches work they need to be squeezed in tighter than was happening, so with a little gigery/pokery the dash door open light and the cabin roof light will now go out. Many thanks. Richard. If you live locally I will buy you a pint!

glad too help, and good that you got it fixed, unfortunatly i dont live close, but i can be there in a few hours lol. (free pint gota be worth the drive)
