Hi guys
I'm sharing with you one of the main trouble of my terrano: the automatic door lock.
It's never worked since I bought it. I knew it didn't work, of course.

when I close the door either with the key or the remote, only the front doors closes but they suddently reopen.
At the moment I disconnected all the connectors of the actuators in all 5 doors and I close manually.

I made some tests in the past days and it seems there is no signal checking the wires.
With a friend of mine we figured out it could be the siemens relais inside the black box (surfing the web it seems they fail sometimes). I'm waiting for a couple of spares to replace them, and i'll check again.

If some of you have more ideas, feel free to share!

Hi and welcome, if they try to lock but then unlock suggests that one or more of the door actuators is not going fully home hence unlocking straight away, try disconnecting one door at a time and testing, Rick

i did it..
i also took down one of the faulting actuators in order to overhaul it, but it was fine.
I made some tests with the actuator and it seems there's no locking signal from the connectors.
In the workshop manual i found two different locking systems: the simple "d-lock" and the more complicated "superlock". of course my truck is equipped with the superlock.. damn!

I would be with Rick on this one :thumb2

I've suffered this myself before and it turned out to be a faulty drivers door actuator

I supposed so..
but after some checks everything seems to be ok on the mechanical side.

with a multimeter we found a missing signal from one of the wires, that's why we're changing the twin relays.
moreover, i found that someone had already opened the black box, but didn't replace any component.

how did you check your actuator? maybe I could do more tries

I took my door car off and sat inside whilst unlocking and locking the truck, I noticed that there was a small green retaining clip that one of the rods connected to that was very worn, as a result of this, when the central locking was activated from they key the car would lock and immediately unlock again.

When operated using the handle inside, the physical manual movement was enough to move it into a position that it was happy with that didn't try to unlock again when released.

I'll try and dig some pictures out, all I know is I was trying to fix this in a multi storey car park in Glasgow a few years ago when I realised what was wrong, I called Rick Solarman and there was a new plastic part waiting for me when I arrived home :naughty :naughty

He's a good man Mr Rick

Here we are!
after some holiday and some misunderstanding with a supplier, today i replaced the two siemens relays that COULD be the cause of my issues.

I ordered a couple of Tyco spares and here's some pics of what i've done

and here's a pic of an opened relay.
as you can probably notice, there's something bad on the contact, and it's been cleaned a bit before taking the photo: it was worse than this.

finger crossed! i hope that was the problem

Well done lets hope that sorts it, Rick

ps I see you have a nice board holder :clap

I made everything at work, where i have all the necessary equipment and the supervision of a colleague!
an electronic engineer (him) and a mechanical engineer (me).. so for sure we've made simple things just more complicated!

unfortunately at home i have only basic tools for electric/electronic works!

Nice!!!! What do you do?

I'm an Electrical Engineer at Aston Martin in VCATS (Vehicle Configuration and Testing) I'm responsible for testing functionality of electrical components within the car and also the software flash routines to get the correct software into everything during build

Bloody hell, that was like a game of spot the difference! It took me five minutes to find any changes in the first 2 pics! :lol

woah! definitely an interesting position!
I used to work on automatic packaging machine as an R&D mechanical designer, but last year I moved to Kemet as the mechanical leader of the developement of a new product.
Being in automotive, maybe you could have heard about Kemet: we're one of the world leader for electrical components (mainly capacitors).

By the way, next year i'm going to move again, back to automatic packaging machines, as a product manager and eventually i'll start travelling around!

this evening's raining.. I don't have a box big enough for my truck, so i have to work outside, in front of the box door.

I don't want to dismantle the doors with this weather, of course.. but the back door is still naked.. so maybe i could make a fast try with that actuator...

I know, it's definitely too early to celebrate..
BUT

the back door is now opening and closing with the remote!

but i won't let this go to my head...

IT WORKS!!

Ok, let's calm down..
Now everything's fine and I can lock my truck with my key, again!

I found my back windows locked with iron wires.. but that's another problem, I'll open a new topic about that!

Well done mate, but intrigued to know more on your iron wires, Rick
