I was following a Total Off Road roadbook in the peaks and this was blocking my way, somehow I doubt the council erected that pile of crap!!!
Note the walkers seen through the bars, when they got to where I was they stopped and watched me VERY closely, looking VERY sheepish!!

Footpath officer?! Never heard of one, probably all got sacked off!!

It just looks very rough, the sign just wedged in there, the whole thing is wonky and fastened to chuff knows what, I just have my suspicions it's not supposed to be there! I will have to buy the O/S map and check or something, I'll be on trailwise soon too :thumb2

In all seriousness you have to be careful about what lanes you can and what you can't as they seem to change quite regularly. As far as I'm aware the council bod is a rights of way officer, probably being merged into something else now.

The council should be able to provide you with the current status of any lane within their authority. The national parks authorities also get involved with closures. You'll probably need to provide os grid refs but who or how to enquire I have no idea.

There are various green lane associations that can help you too but again who Ive no idea. Think theres one with an acronym called glass but probably incorrect acronym.

If memory serves me right wasn't it Elty or someone that has a bit more knowledge on this subject.

Hi Jim, yeh GLASS is correct, green lane association, I'm waiting for my membership pack in the post, also gives me access to something called trialwise :thumb2

I would never drive anywhere I wasn't sure about! Folks who do that spoil it for the rest!

Contact your local GLASS area person thingy. Forgot the proper name for them, They will let you know even if you are not a glass member.

That fence does not look like it's council made.

That's Bamford clough and it's closed for repairs.
Wouldn't waste your money on joining Glass,can get access to trailwise free,it's limited to a few kms on the free version or join CALM, membership is only £20 a year and gets you the same access as GLASS.

Do a lot of good work getting people with disabilities out into parts of the country they wouldn't get to see.
Not just about 4x4 driving, help with all sorts of things.
I am hoping to organise a coast to coast green Lane charity run for them next summer.
