Just taken Ricks advice and checked the mpg over a thousand miles and it's done 38mpg. It's a little 1.2 turbo petrol.
I feel a little disappointed with such a modern engine or is it just me?

What model Skoda and what BHP, what year, manual or auto?

Just been to France skiing in my insurance right off 2004 Passat. TDI diesel 4 up maxed out luggage. 90 mph motorway stuff then firkin great Alp. Did 2000 mile round trip and averaged 49 mpg :D
Happy bunny for a few hundred quid car

"Honest John" reckons the "real" average mpg for that is about 46mpg, so yes it sounds like your performance is somewhat down on the average.

:(

Real World MPG

It seems that all manufacturers tell lies about m.p.g. At work I am often sent out to drive 50 miles in a customers vehicle to see what m.p.g. I can get then we photograph the dashboard display and the number plate as evidence.

On the 50 mile trip usually on the A38 & A50 I have no heater fan running, no air conditioning on , no lights on, do not exceed 60 mph,no cruise control and as it's usually an automatic it is light acceleration with virtually no braking. This usually tops the customers average by around 10 m.p.g. more.

The worst vehicles to test are Mercedes Hybrids. In reality they are no better than the equivalent straight diesel engined model. The real benefit in Hybrids was the tax banding for company vehicles. Its one big game and a pack of lies.

I cant even manage 45 mpg on the latest Smart for 2 cars !

To be honest I can't even remember what Skoda quoted the mpg but the manufacturer figures being different to the real world is as old as the hills.

It'll be interesting to do a motorway trip and then check mpg straight away.

The "Honest John" website has a section for the general public to input their own mpg figures, they then collate these and give a percentage accuracy compared to the manufacturer figure. I'm back to my phone now, but I think the accuracy for your Roomster was 94%, which isn't bad at all. I have looked at some that were 78% in the past, but I've also seen some that were 110%. So not all manufacturers bend the truth. It's a good website, it's how I originally went for a Terrano.

Passat for sale :D
Getting over 40 driving local A roads and loaded with tools. Always driven enthusiastically. Auto box . All leather and full of gizmos. Hey buy new . ??

alice does about 65mpg on a run , and around 50 mpg around town ... she is a 1.6 turbo diesel ( blue hdi ) and has 100 bhp

Strangely enough when I was researching 4 x4 's in 2006/7 I googled for a cheap 4 x 4 motor that's how I ended up with my Terrano. It was only when I came to sort out the insurance cover that I realised mine was not your normal Terrano but an r3mR. The trader who sold it me who I had known for over 40 years just described it as an imported wide bodied special equipment version.

hills.

There you go Jim. You've answered your own question. You need to move some where flat like Lincolnshire. You can't leave in Yorkshire & expect good MPG.
The hills around you are just too many in numbers :lol

You could always just drive down hill every where :D

The mileage you get is not abnormally low, especially since you don't do a lot of motorways. And, small engine, 3 cylinders if I'm not mistaken, not a lot of power so you have to use all of it more of the time.

Check here, German website where consumers enter their mileage. Your mileage, 38 mpg, would be 7,43 km/100km. Bang on, according to the graph on the website ;)

Can't remember when I owned a motor that did 38 miles per gallon

I've picked up a new works van today, a citroen dispatch brand new, it has to have adblue in a seperate tank.....supposedly lasts about 12,000miles a tank, gives a 1000mile warning to empty. If it runs out while driving it will let you keep driving but when the engine is turned off it won't start until more adblue is put in. I don't think it makes fuel consumption any better but it's an extra cost innit.

The 1.2 tsi is a 4 cylinder turbocharged lump. Had a post on skoda fb group and confirmed that it is a little low.

Adblue blues !!

The adblue is just to reduce harmful emissions unlikely to affect mpg.

On the slightly older Mercs when the adblue warning lamp comes on if you don't get it topped up within the distance limit like your it will not start. Worse still if you top it up yourself it still will not start as a Mercedes dealer has to re-set the system! They changed this on later models so your own top up is OK.

I'll see how much it costs, it's bound to put something on the price of a mile!!

" alice " uses adblue ..... on my contract its classed as a service item which I don't pay for :D , but if I did I was told it varies in price but is around £2 a litre

Thats not bad, makes sense to put it on more vehicles in light of recent discoveries on diesel emissions!!
