diff breathers

after doing a 3" lift I realised the breather is only just put into the tubing on the chassis. ive been in much deeper water than that.

thinking of extending all the breather tubes up to the snokel to be on the safe side.
will this do?

yep, I poked mine through one of the gromet's in the floor and up inside the interior trim...I figured if it goes deeper then that the engine will be fooked anyway.

I thought the breather was to let off gasses from heat in the diff?
if so you don't want it inside your truck.

Would a 1way valve, similar to washer pipe system, be easier or would it want to draw air back in as it cooled?

No as hot air needs to escape also.

I've been wanting to do this since I saw my mate do this with the front one on his Disco and he strapped it to the side of his snorkel

You could run it along the chassis to the engine bay. To be honest i think going to the snorkel is a bit OTT. Only reason to do it on Landrovers is they don't go to the engine bay so you might aswell run to the snorkel as your doing the whole lot anyway.

Then the seals may suck water in when the diff is warm then rapidly cooling when driving through water.

No I meant Into the engine bay would be fine. As gearbox, front diff etc goes there anyway only the rear diff breather is needed to the engine bay.

My diff breathers are routed into my snorkel. Bought the kit off facebook for £15 does the job.

A lot of the mods we do are OTT but that's what modding is all about:thumbs

Oil once heated will produce vapour/gas & personally I wouldn't want the rear diff breather plumbed inside my cabin due to that reason. Fitted a oil catch tank & breather on my last T2 (know engine oil get far hotter than diff oil) & even in the summer you could see the hot gas coming up between the wing & bonnet

has anyone measured or does anyone know the dimentions of the pipe of the breather tube?
I was just going to buy the 4 into 1 adaptor but it only takes 6mm tube.
the 6mm tube available is only 2mm inside diameter. im not sure if this tubing is wide enough.:nenau

You can warm up the pipe to fit over the breather spiggot or use some rubber pipe as a joint or change the whole fitting for a push fit one too for ultimate coolness in modding land
