I think the filters in my pump are blocked, how big a job is it to take it off and clean them out? cheers

Didn't know there were any filters IN the pump :nenau Just the fuel filter and some have the mini filter !
What's your symptoms ?

lack of power coughing and spluttering and alot of smoke! I jad the same problem last year took it to a garage and got ripped off so thinking about doing it myself this time

the garage I took it to said theres a gourz/filter in the pump that was blocked and charged me £800 to sort it out

THAT sounds like the mini filter . OIK it out :D It'll take you 29 mjns of fiddling :)
OOPs just read your details 2004 trck ? not sure they had the mini filter ?

Just thought of another possibility. You could have corroded fuel lines and therefore sucking IN air into the system  That'll give the same kind of outcome. What colour smoke and when ?

white smoke and every time it misfires it smokes, last time I had the problem they said it was a solenoid on the pump but so they sent it away to be refurbished but when they put it back on they had the same problem still, then it all came to light that all what the problem was was some gourz/filter in the pump?

OK it's possible you've got a mini filter in it then Simply bin it :thumbs

Fair point  In that case go to the workshop download section, there's a guide there for the job :thumbs Won't take you long and if you're double jointed about 29mins :thumbs

there was a mini filter in the bolt but wasn't blocked :( still running like crap,

Any fault codes ?
MAF, sucking in air, fuel filter seal, injectors, air leak on intercooler etc etc
Can you describe in more detail what's going on ?

Do what I did and replace the fuel filter feed and return with clear plastic piping, you'll need 7-8mm internal diameter pipe, I sourced mine from a beer brewing shop locally, it's food grade as well so should be good for running Veg Oil with :)

That will then show any air bubbles in your lines after you've primed the filter

Also worth swapping your filter as it's cheap and a nice easy job, £7-8 and 15mins work

Don't bother crawling round looking for holes in your fuel lines, they will be pin pricks, it will be like looking for a needle in a hay stack

put a new fuel filter on this morning, had injectors refurbished last year, its takes probably 5-10 seconds to start up, then its runs fine until I put my foot on the throttle then its like it misfires and a big cloud of grey/white smoke comes off the exhaust, its like it gets not fuel for a split second, the engine management light is on but untill I get it in to a garage on Monday I wont know whay the fault code is,

Crank position sensor ? Did you buy a new one last year then ? Is the EML on now ? If so read the faul;t codes now. It could be the No1 injector sensor, PRV is unlikely to have gone in a year if it was that, and even so will just make things a bit limp, not missfire etc.
More work needed your end before a decent answer I think.

Took my old MK2 T2 to a diesel specialist & got told the pump needed stripping & almost fell over when they gave me a price, joined here & went looking for the mini filter & found one in the banjo bolt (1st to find it:lol) anyway it didn't look blocked but I drilled the thing out (you got to be carefull) & the white smoke almost stopped but the fuel lines weren't in the best condition so could have been sucking in a tiny bit of air but it ran very well

I presume I had a new one last year, I changed the fuel filter, then emptyed and cleaned the diesel tank out (someone said could be water in my diesel), plus cleaned all the fuel lines out (a different person said blocked lines) then had my injectors refurbished still no luck, at this point id had enough of the bloody thing so took it to a diesel garage and they rang me up told me that code, said it was a solid or something or other, they would have to send the pump away, a week later they got the pump back put it on the car was still the same so sent it back a second time:jerkit:, when they received it this time he said there was a filter that was all clogged up, he wasn't happy with them because they obviously hadn't refurbed it very well??

now it seems to be the same again, I've changed the filter today took the mini filter out, checked all yhe lines and the pipes that go from the injectors, im out of ideas now so looks like it will be back to the garage unless anyone else has any ideas? :banghead:banghead:banghead

1st off have you got the EML on ?
If not then it's more like a physical issue eg air being sucked in via corroded fuel lines possibly:eek:
So do as suggested and put some clear lines on the filter housing to start with etc
