Hi guys can you help please with tuning the TD maverick/terrano?
I'm thinking of getting an oil burner but not sure between TDi with intercooler or the older TD type. I've read on here somewhere that you can get more power from the TD by boosting the turbo and uping the fuel pump. THEN fitting an intercooler!
Any thoughts as I know of a cheap TD 8)

I don't know how it's done but have read you can turn up the boost preasure of the turbo & you can adjust the fuel pump on the TD's As for an intercooler you might be able to get one from the breakers yard that will fit infront of your rad. The bigger the intercooler the better

i dont know... but id be looking at a tdi intercooler and a bonnet scoop

from what ive seen the only adjustment on the turbo is the adjustable rod

then you would have to look at the fuel supply but you'd need to speak to the lads at city electro diesel llansamlet swansea, i try to get my mot's done there just so i can talk to them all for an hour while im waiting

try looking at diesel bobs website he has loads of usefull info! and ali sport they do an intercooler conversion, but whatever you do fuel economy is going to go down im pretty sure of that!

Cheers plank, I'll check iy out.
I gave up fuel economy ages ago when I had my cherokee jeep 8O
4.0L straight 6 mmmmmmmmmmmm loads o' torque 8)
That was the main reason for getting the 2.4 cause I wanted to gas it. Trouble is the petrol lump seems so chuffin rubbish
I'm sure it's all these pesky electronic gizmos :|

If you went that route where would you put the existing turbo on the 2.7TD as it sits on top of the engine, where you want to put the intercooler. Or am I reading this wrong :?:

I've not got a deisel one to look at but I thought the turbo was on the side of the lump!
Intercooler just mounts on top of engine for convenience I guess.

The turbo on the TDI is down the side of the engine.

If the TD was the same it would be a doddle, pity its not

Permission to say male hen :?
Ah well I guess it'll be a hunt for the TDi intercolder then
I might just have done with it and stick a V8 in it 8)
Just seen a sawn off old skool range rover in tescos carpark. He had some monster V8 in it and almost popin wheelies 8O
Dam off road boy racers  Looked cool though..........

both turbo's are the same in the same place the tdi has an intercooler on top and the td has a hose running accross the top , so easy to do

I have seen them comverted with the intercooler in front of the radiator, I had this in mind once and had a big old alloy intercooler and some hoses knocking around but they got thrown away and the project died :(

You sure the throttle body is not on top of the rockerbox. Look in the gallery and you'll see what I'm on about

No do not adjust the turbo wastegate link rod, This rod only controls the amount the wastegate opens. If the rod is too long the wastegate will be stuck open and you will have no power, too short and the waste gate wont open and your engine will blow up.

Its the actuator that controls the rod is what needs adjusting this actuator is controlled by a small rubber pressure pipe the easiest was is to fit a manual boost controller in this pipe its a small adjustable valve that reduces the pressure to the actuator but you really need a boost gauge to know what pressure you are boosting at.

will any turbo pressure gauge fit,
would a thinner hose give more presure ,

any turbo pressure gauge should do and I think that you would need a lot smaller pipe to make a pressure difference.

I think that the actuator fitted to our turbos has an adjustment screw to alter the spring tension or you can put the actuator in a vice and squash it slightly to alter the loading but i personally would fit a manual boost controller

cool i will start looking for bits then, any idea what i should be boosting at and the max it could be adjusted to safelly

standard boost is about .75bar I would take it to 1 bar and see how it goes for a while I have boosted at 1.5bar with no problems on other cars
