Just wondering if decatting a diesel is legal for the UK?

i think its now if they were fitted from build its got to be on for mot.
my brothers pj failed as no cat on it but passed all the years befor but he got to see the list of cars with cats and his was on it, but it should not have been as no cat are listed for his on any exhaust systems,so after a while it was passed and he got in touch with vosa and told them there list is wrong.

I asked my local garage the same question. They said if it comes as a factory fit, then it's required for an MOT pass.

Doesn't stop you from removing the internals & leaving the housing in place ;) :augie

Of course I don't know anyone (my self included) who would do such a thing :sly

I thought so. Its just that someone said to me that if I wanted to fit a snorkel I would have problems with a Cat, but I just cant see why.. I think he is just purely thinking about performance rather than what I want, which is legal and reliable, with a bit of a boost now and again... If I wanted to change the exhaust I'd go for a sporty cat back and possibly change the cat to a sporty one. I do need the truck for my daily ride.

I have met a few people who think the Snorkel is actually the exhaust out, rather than air in... Maybe he thought you were going to bring the exhaust out through the wing, and that would create issues with the cat...:lol

I was only saying that I don't have a cat anyway, I have a couple of dogs!

CAT & DPF removal (not feline)

Just wondering if decatting a diesel is legal for the UK?

When I had my Chrysler 300CRD Estate the EGR valve had to be replaced due to the low mileage and short journey work it got after I retired.

Although I parted with it before I had problems with the DPF as a consequence of the short journey work I looked into getting rid of the DPF and the CAT as the DPF's were a grand each and it had a pair.
A firm in the Birmingham area were marketing a S.S. dummy DPF complete with lugs for the sensors and a software patch to defeat the DPF heat cycle etc. The cost was around £800 for the pair fitted .

They also did complete CAT removal. I have been told that in the USA there is a thriving aftermarket exhaust service where you "loan / hire" an original CAT for the equivalent of an MoT test then have it removed and your sports system free of CAT etc put back on !

Found this clip of my old motor (SJ59YLM)when I sold it to the Trade and it was moved from the Chilwell branch to Leeds. They sold it within days of it being put on the market. Although I only owned her for 3 years I did love that 300 CRD for straight line grunt.
