My maverick is as flat as a witches tit when I accelerate ( and strugged to pull my 1000kg caravan ). It appears to me that the turbo is not kicking in on my 2.7 tdi  is there any obv checks as there is a oil smell but no sign's of leaks or anything...........please help as ive not a clue where to start :lol

Oh if i get one is it just a case of swapping for another ?

Ta

Most unlikely to be the turbo.
Do a diagnostic check 1st see what codes you get.
Most likely will be MAF followed by fuel issues like filter or air leaking INTO the system.
Report back for more info :D

Thanks fella im off on Wednesday so might have a prod around with a screwdriver :lol

i use electrical cleaning spray on the maf every service short blast from the spray can cleans it up a treat then a blast with the air hose to make sure its nice n dry works a treat and a noticable difference after if no luck go the fuel route.

Don't forget some of the TDI's had the mini banjo filter too. Check the downloads section for info on that one.

Well I've been a member on here for years and people have reported having two forms of mini filter on TDI's, some have the same type as the non intercooled but they must of been last few made like that. The second type I think may of been fitted on later models and is smaller and further into the injector pump.

There will be plenty people that'll disagree with my thoughts but that isn't unusual on here. That's another story and I won't go there.

Ive seen them fitted on tdi's up to at least 1999 i recon they all had them fitted and its just people take them out.

My TDi had one, it was in the banjo on the rear of the pump you have to look hard as it does not look like a filter till you get it out, think I put a pic on here but do not ask me where, I remember somebody wanted one but mine was too small, Rick

I've just cleaned the MAF inc them small wires, still the same. Doesn't appear to be a fuel prob and no leak ( well an obvious one ) could this small filter really cause the prob I'm having (ie lack of turbo and this odd whistle ) ? I'll have another search in work tomoz on here for location and pics etc. I did take the pipe off going to the turbo and that's spinning freely.

Thanks :)

thought occurs that your maf may have failed completely (internaly) do you have a digital volt meter and is your maf Bosch or Hittachi? cos I can tell you how to test it, Rick

The leaks I'm on about are AIR being sucked in. You often wont see a diesel leak.
Try unpluging the MAF while the engine is running and see what happens.
Check also intercooler pipes for soundness.
And yes all these things will make your truck most pedestrian

im with jim and rick ...... see if it has a mini filter :thumb2

also ..... can you push the plunger on the top of the fuel filter down ?

also ........ are you running veggie or diesel ?

the plunger is a good point is it up or down, if down = blocked fuel line, Rick

Diesel pal and its solid ( it had a full service, and I had running probs but I didnt pump it hard enogugh, but then that was perfect after that and has been since )
