I know what you are saying, I drive a Transit for my self-employed work. I haven't had an accident in 10+ years (touch wood).

However,...

... I see a dangerous act in front of my van two or three times a week, ranging from overtaking on blind crests/corners, running red lights, using a mobile phone etc.

I kinda think that it is not so much "if" as much as "when" one of these near misses becomes an incident. So I am seriously considering getting one.

Oh, yes, and we live in that traffic looney hotspot of...

... the countryside.

Welcome to the Cotswolds !!!

Agreed...

Country lanes are one of the worst now, people coming round the bends on the wrong side of the road, without even slowing down, oh and those mob cyclists who somehow manage to race on a public highway, despite it being illegal, and come along as a huge group, 6 abreast right across the road, heads tucked down staring at their back wheel, I have had a few close shaves meeting them coming the other way, and once watched them ride straight into the back of a tractor that was moving slowly round one of the right angle bends. Another time, I saw them, across a corner and stopped, Yet still one rode into the front of the car, luckily he did not try anything on, but I was very aware it was my word against 20 or so...

I think a lot of times it does depend on where you drive, and obviously how many miles you travel. When I used to drive 60K a year, I used to see about 1 thing a week that was either an accident, or someone risking other peoples lives by their actions. Not sure if I would have ever taken it further, even if I did have the camera, but on one occasion I did have a coach cut me up, Nearly pushing me onto the crash barrier, which I later learned had crashed on the M4, killing a load of "war vets" on their way back from a remembrance ceremony, I would have passed that onto the police.

But it's not all about accidents, we came home the other night, and there were deer crossing the road, & a while ago we saw a family of weasels, which for us would have been great to have got on film. Then there was the Transit Van that was covered in fur, and had antlers on the front, making it look like a giant reindeer!! :doh

I understand everyone's feelings over dash cams & hopefully i'll never need the footage due to a bump:rolleyes: for me it'll come in great for filming any lanes I do:D but it'll be great so getting clips of the police driving dangerously like jumping red lights because they feel like it or driving all over the road because they aren't watching the road & messing about with something on the seat which I often see:doh but came close to having a head on collision the other month after a female was driving down the duel carriage way the wrong way & even took the round about the wrong way straight into the path of a 40 tonne truck:eek: so would have shown the footage to the police if I had of had it

I appreciate all the statistics, that electrical glitch sounds unlikely but very bad timing..

Personally I see so many aggressive idiots every day driving and riding that the camera is invaluable!! Yes vs the amount of miles covered I agree it's not a common thing but for when the inevitable May occur I want to be covered, let's face it...

Everyone lies now... Everyone...
Single driver turns into car full of whiplash patients
Car turned from an Audi into a Bugatti in terms of repair costs... :lol
The list goes on... I'd just rather have something reliable rolling for the "if" moment :thumb2

That roll back would have cost me a court date and likely lost my limited no claims... That's saved me a fortune already

Unfortunately the only time you'll think it's worth the money is if something happens to you... Never a nice time...

When that guy with the jag tried it with me I was crapping it incase he made false claims...
