I have got an old caravan that I have owned for about 5 years, sadly it has not been used on a holiday yet. but fingers crossed that will change this year, I put in in a caravan storage place in August last year but sadly on the way the braking damper burst. So now I need to find a replacement damper, I have looked into it a bit and worked out I need a whole new coupling :(

Then the next job will be new tyres (which I cant afford for ages yet)

after that it will need a wash and a bit of painting then I am ready to rock and roll :D

I cant wait for my first caravan holiday with my kids :D

drop MudLifeCrisis a PM. he may know where to get bit like that from..

Nice one - should be a real hoot. Have fun! and hope you sort the twiddly bits in time.

and what size are the tyres, someone might have some you never know.....

tyres are 175/R13

I think part of the fun is going to be doing it up too.

Hi Jace, it is an AL-KO coupling but they want about £200 for the part i need  so I will keep looking for now :thumb2

are you missing a dimension there? needs sidewall number?

I am fairly sure that is whats written on the side of the current tyres, I might nip to the storage place and double check this weekend ;)

should be same format as, say, 235 x 70 x R16 for the standard T2 16" tyre.

Thats tyre width, sidewall height and rim size. The above would be 235mm wide, with a sidewall height 70% of that (so 164.5mm) and a rim diameter of 16". So you're just missing the middle number I'd have thought.....

and while you're at it, get a pic of the hitch and damper so we can see whats needed.....:thumb2

caravan breakers on ebay. £200 is that for whole hitch and chasis lol

priced up some 165/80/13 caravan tyres from Dexel and they qouted £50 each fitted
i am just in the process of doing up a Jubilee Herald i got off ebay in november hoping to get away in march if i get my finger out:doh
cheers Andy

just get some part worn van tyres, check the load rating first they need to be at least 6 ply, 8 ply are better.

is the damper definitely broken? As if it's just a case of it thudding against the back of the car on braking it may just be brakes not working properly after the long time in storage, might seem silly, but always store it with the handbrake off :thumb2

a brand new damper should cot no more than £30 to £50, there is a big caravan breakers near to me, and they have a website, if only i could remember what they are called :doh

the tyre size you have given are correct! its a commercial tyre size! ie a small van! be carefull if you are thinking of just putting normal car tyres on! the load rating may be different ! and side wall ply's may be less!!

yep, it is definatly broken and the damper is internal plus the whole thing is welded into the coupling. so I need the whole thing, it is always stored with the handbrake off :)

without the damper there is no control over the brakes which is a bit scary as when I brake gently with the car the brakes come full on on the caravan and it skids. luckily when the damper broke i was only a mile from my destination :D

hi all,
the tyre size is correct thats the old size now not used much on cars really, the profile is usually "80" which is standard, and the least ply rating to fit is 6 ply, and dont go for second hand buy new its not worth it for the piece mind, just my two bob's worth
cheers eboy.
