update is I took her out round the block and parked up - can't see any coolant leak so maybe when I filled her up some ran into a pool somewhere in the chassis and this was the dripping, Ill keep coolant in the boot and keep an eye on her.
Im always nervous after what for me is a big mechanical job incase ive buggered up but I did ensure everything was extremely well bolted and tight.

I'm sure this is no help to you now but , the cowling is not needed. (UK anyway)
With no cowling , the rad can be out in a few minutes. Just thermostat c/clip and the bottom hose where it joins the water pump, then lift the whole lot out with the bottom hose still attached :thumbs

Im going to flush my coolant again tomorrow and remove the shroud as you advise - at least this way if I need to change a belt I don't have to revert to magic as a means of fixing things lol

The T2 has an awesome cooling system obviously designed for hotter climes. I changed to electric fans years ago. At the time I fitted themI realised they never came on as the water temp never got hot enough.
Worry not about your cowling :thumbs

Thats good to know, I remember owning a 2.4 Litre Prado years ago and every journey I dreaded the head cooking on the damn thing.

you are in a fortunate position in that having replaced your water pump you have also a new viscous fan, with an old fan although as makitfit says the T2 is good for cooling this only applies if the viscous unit works and many do not, problem is that on cold startup the fan roars for a few minutes so giving the reassuring feel that it is OK but all this says is it has not lost its viscous fluid which sinks to the bottom, that is why it drives till spun to the outside, but if the spindle to which the bi metal spring is seized then it will not come on as temp rises = cooked engine, next problem is I have not found a reliable method of testing this unit, Rick

wouldnt it be better then to make the fan seize so it always works or maybe attach somekind of rotation sensor that shows it workin? you know like those magnets you attach to a pushbike wheel to make the speedo work?
