damn this radiator hose - HELP????

Well just started to do my waterpump replacement but early stagers are dumbfounding me.

Remove top rad bolts and cowling screws, top hoses off.

The fan shroud isnt in two pieces as I thought logically it would be.

Bottom rad hose clip has its screw underneath it so how the hell do I get to that - as canty lift the shroud out and so cant lift the rad out - Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My fan shroud is one piece, and just pops in to plastic lugs at the bottom.

Ther only good thing about landrovers is their shroud is in two pieces so clips apart lol, the rest of the car is pants.

To get the shroud out on mine I need to take the rad out, to take the rad out i need to remove bottom coolant pipe.

to remove pipe i need to undo it.

I cant reach it to undo it so im buggered lol.

Think you may need to remove the sump guard.
Think its six M6 bolts, do expect a few to shear though as they are made of cheese!

Cut the cowling off, No need to put it back on.

ha ha ha - cue demonic laughter!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lie underneath with bash plate off in a pool of coolant.

Put hand in small gap and using my smallest 7mm ratchet set and cut side of hand to ribbons managed to remove bottom clip, hose off and rad lying next to fence.

Now for the next swear word producing events in this battle with a water pump.

I couldn't get it clear of the rad cowling to lift mine out.

Well all pulleys out and water pump off, just gotta clean off the old gasket crap, can see where it was leaking now its off.

well its taken for ever to get it clean, or am I being anal!!!!!!!!!!

Had to use a craft scalpel to scrape of the old gasket as it was like bitumen gone hard on the surface. Just washed it down and leaving it to dry for 5 mins then gonna try and get her back together:bow

well everything back together EXCEPT the damn pipe I couldn't get off at the start.

It wont bleeding go back on now - Im ready to use a sledge hammer at this point lol.

I haver tried swearing at it but it won't listen, God these terrano's are ignorant aint they.

Have a coffee count to a thousand then back out to try again:banghead:

With hoses in the past I have always used some diluted washing up liquid and on it goes...
Or you could use some water based lubricant...

Well all done and seems to get upto operating temp ok - blowers giving out heat.

Gauge doesn't go as far as quickly but thats probably a good sign, I had some drips from the bottom of the rad but Ill check tomorrow as that might just be coolant from when I filled it up. When it leaked before it was from the middle of the bash plate as it was dripping from above on the water pump and there is nothing there now.

Is it me that just worries you have done something wrong and your engine will explode lol???:lol

well ran the beast this morning and i seem to have a few drips originating on the bottom of the rad so not sure if a pipe is on wrong, just hope I didnt damage the rad when I took it out but I was carefull?

I jetted the rad down and brushed it with a soft brush whilst off as it was a bit dirty and flushed it out with a hose pipe but I cant see that hurting it as it wasn't a pressure hose just off the tap with no attachment.

i damaged my rad changing ip so on table ran hose into it to locate leaks and a few came to life in the up right tubes up from the bottom.got long nose thin tipped pliers and squashed tubes to seal.kept running water in till no leaks,blew air threw to dry then re hosed and no leaks so put back in t2.
lost 5 tubes but have had no trouble towing or water loss.

Maybe with considering putting some rad weld in there, so if the crimped pipes start to leak, the rad weld will do what it's designed to do.:nenau

Or, carry a bottle of it in the boot, I have some in my boot, just in case, then you are sorted should it spring a leak when you are out. :thumb2

Still cheaper than a new rad.

I'm sure this is no help to you now but , the cowling is not needed. (UK anyway)
With no cowling , the rad can be out in a few minutes. Just thermostat c/clip and the bottom hose where it joins the water pump, then lift the whole lot out with the bottom hose still attached :thumbs
