Hi guys,

Due to some stupidity this morning, I managed to breal off the silly little black rod aerial at the base of the fitting, where it fits into the base.

It was already a mite loose......

I have searched for aerial related threads, to no avail.....:nenau

What have other folks done under these circumstances......I am happy to replace the unit if anyone has a similar unit available.

I have to say that the radio reception is not that good, although the radio unit is a very good JVC......any ideas on improving it......:thumb2

Thank you guys.....:thumbs

To be honest I’m not familiar with the aerials and bases that are standard simply because I’ve not touced them. My old truck the rubber part got unscrewed occasionally but that was mounted at rear of the roof. I can’t remember if it was a male or female fitting on the rubber aerial. I know the later truck has the aerial mounted at front of the roof. I’m sure I’ve read somewhere that they have a positive feed going to them to run a little preamp. I guess if you go down the complete replacement route then you’ll need to know if the connectors that go on the underside of the base is the same so you may need to drop head lining to mess with that.

Thanks Jim, interesting point about the possible pre amp.

I think you can access the aerial base through the roof, by removing the sunroof/spotlight/switch console in the roof above the windscreen.

I will have a look tomorrow and check.......thank you.....:thumb2

Actually I think you’re better off with the front mounted aerial because if you have to replace the whole unit base n all then there is less of a cable length needed to reach the radio.
Don’t forget if you do have to remove or replace the aerial base use a good dose of tigerseal or something similar to seal it up because it is a known leak spot.

Thanks again Jim, I hope it will work out okay, but we'll see......:thumb2

There will be plently of sealant used......I've already had to seal up the sunroof to stop water ingress....

If I remember, the ariel cable unscrew off the bottom of the mounting. Yes you can access this through the interior light/sunroof switch cover.

Look ok but only thing that I can see with them is that they don’t pivot so you can alter the angle of them. This might not bother most people so it’s just an observation.

The original has a similar 'rakish' build angle anyway, so not a vertical sticky thing......
