D22,a good buy?What about this engine?

Hi all, I just bought a 54 plate D22 with 38k on the clock.
A friend told me (after I bought it) about the engine problems, something to do with shells and bolts. I looked this up on You Tube and am now worried. I called Nissan and they played it down but I'm not sure what to think! Does anyone have any ideas to the numbers of engines affected and if I should be worried. Is there anything I can do to reduce the risk without spent hundreds of money?
Any advise would be well good!

There are two options with this- do nothing and cross your fingers- and give it TLC, plenty of oil changes, and be-careful when towing, or take preventitive action now.

Be aware that when the engine does go pop, it will not be repairable, but if given the mod kit before damage, it will then go on almost indefinately.

The work is roughly £750, plus £250 if you have the clutch changed also assming no damage to the crank.

I have had the "mods" done on mine new shells bolts etc runs like new.

D22 mods

speak to the guys at Billcars they can supply you the parts to do the mods on the shells and bolts and can also supply a modified oil pick up,they did my D22 and can`t fault there work if you do any searches you will find a lot of people recommend them,as said check the crank if its damaged dont have it ground as you are in to the soft metal.
if i was you i would get it done asap rather than riding around in a ticking time bomb:thumbs

I agree with spiderpig Bilcars are the people for the mods They did mine including shells,bolts new clutch,all the chains and guides oil pump and a mod from the sump to pump to get rid of Nissans silly groumet.

I didnt mention Billcar in my post, as i didnt want to appear to have favouritism, but they are the only company I would trust when dealing with a YD25.

Agreed the stupid o-ring design on the stock oil pickup tube is almost the root cause of the YD's problems. The bearings made of toffee dont help..

It is always number 4 rod that they throw after the big end shells spin caused by aerated oil and poor pressure furthest from the pump.
