I think my offside cv has gone, there is a knocking sound which gets worse when turning right, firstly any recommendations on where to get cv's, milners? or local motor factors, also should I do both, and is there anything else I should consider when hub is off?

Cheers Ian

Before you do that check its not the steering limit stop. Put some grease on them as per the workshop downloads...second one in the list.

Depends if its just a single clonk or a regular knocking with wheel rotation.....if the former then steering stop likely as supergnome says but thats normally only in action on hard lock. Latter sounds like CV.

I paid about £38 from one of the internet specialist sites for a new CV joint complete with gaiter and its a decent one.

Thanks chaps, it was neither! It was the nearside wheel trying to escape, it's worn the studs but didn't fall off thank god, dint no why I never looked at the nearside wheel, sounded like it was coming from the offside! Doh

G wizz ! that was lucky.

Best to check the other studs, also check the wheel nuts, on my mav my Nuts are Brass, 2 have cross threaded in the past (dealer fitted :doh)....and stripped the threads. They just stick the nut in an air drill and press the button, no care in checking by hand that the thread is actually engaged.

Re: Brass nuts....
Some time they are a problem in the winter when it is cold enough to ....

I'm 98% sure I need a new cv joint. I went to the dealer here and got a quote for £600, about a £1,000 for a shaft. Naturally I said I'll think about that for a while longer but with my jaw on the floor, I don't know if I made much sense. I'm more calm now after looking at a few available prices for cv joints that I can order online from England.

Here's one for £28.40
http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/Nissan_Terrano_CV Joint Kits.aspx
£45 here
http://www.driveshaftstore.co.uk/in...x=22&searchMode.y=13&searchMode=makeModelYear
and for £60 here
http://www.comline.uk.com/catalogue/CNS45053E

Is it a case of 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other?

Quick question:
Is it the inner one or the outer one that you require? :nenau

.

patrol

correct me if i'm wrong but is sig says y60 patrol and he as posted in the y60 section

Yeah, mea culpa. I just did a search first for a thread on cv joints and jumped into the thread without checking properly where I was.
But after all, it's a universal issue, probably the same advice applies :)
Anyway I´ll repair (quietly) to the Terrano forum.
