I asked my mate this question the other day to a friend as my passengers side outside one has also split, I've got a replacement but just need to get round to doing it.

I was told its wheel off, driveshaft out etc etc

You can get those glue and fix type, which require no dismantling?..:nenau

But if it was me, I would strip out the drive shaft.
You are looking at about 1 1/2 hours + per side, as the hub, bearings discs, etc all have to be removed but it is possible to get the drive shaft out by splitting the lower ball joint or something like that, and using some elbow grease...
You still need to remove the auto hub and circlip off the shaft first.

Not too worried about taking hub apart just drive shafts taking out etc, do you have to remove whole shaft or can you do it with one of them stretch cones and just remove hub and disc? If I have to remove whole shaft do I lose a lot of oil from gear box? and is it a 2 man job so the bearings on shaft stay in place as I know some shafts have needle roller types?

I use the aftermarket sticky ones (glue together type) on my terrano.... replaced both mine this time for mot last week.... Just take your time and keep it all clean and they take about 30 mins a side :thumb2.... And if they have any tiny leaks on the glued seams that isnt an mot failure (so I am told) only an 'advisory' notice :nenau. I use large jubilee clips to fix at the ends

I was going to say, cant you just take the circlip off from under the hub/bearing cap then knock the bottom ball joint out going downwards with a drift and a BFH, then pull shaft out as you lift the hub up and away ... maybe release top ball joint as well. Then remove shaft after unbolting inner cv from flange and knock the joint off ??

I'm interested myself lol as I've no doubt when i fit my rear springs and jack the front I'm going to start splitting boots as I have fixed hubs at mo

Think I'm gonna give it a go this weekend weather permitting, tooks hubs off before so hopefully that bit should be ok, just splitting that balljoint probably the worst thing I reckon. Anyways I'm gonna have a crack at it and hopefully will post pics as will be using camera anyway to make sure everything is located back together correctly!

Right guys , had a go at it this morning and got as far as removing the hub!! The track rod is knackered which explains my tyre is as far as I got before whacking it back together aborting the mission..lol
Its gonna be a ball ache for 1 person anyways, got to seperate the hub firstly then track rod and both top and bottom wishbones just to remove the hub carrier / brake carrier before even dealing with the driveshaft bit!! I got a bit scared and decided it wasnt for me!! Going to have to go with a split one I think for the time being, although I dont like using them it's my only option at this time money wise!! Also another problem showed it's head this morning, when my wife was driving home car cut out on her, luckily it was before roads were too busy, but took key out and restarted and went 20 miles no problem!! Just hoping this aint gonna be another horror story.
Rich..
