So, been trying to replace the rubber boot on the passenger side outer CV. The old split.

Took everything in the way off, as track rods and balljoints had to be replaced anyway. Got myself the famous green bailouts cone, and a few cv boots from Milners.

But after splitting one of those trying to get it over the cone and scaring off the neighbours with my swearing, I start to think I'm doing something wrong.

Any tips? I tried heating the cone and the boot, it split when I tried to stretch it over the cone. Thinking of taking off the outer cv if there's a decent way of doing that...

forget it, the only real way is to remove the cvj from the shaft, to expect a boot to expand from shaft size to cvj size and stay intact is nonsense, said this before, Rick

How do I take it off? Just tapping with hammer, or is there a circlip or nut somewhere?

I've done all mine that way Rick :nenau

Had another look online, and indeed it seems the "cones" are for use with very flexible boots, not the standard ones I bought. So, off with the outer CV - will make it easier to inspect and clean as well.

Now, how do I take it off? Is it a press fit only, or is there a circlip hidden inside somewhere?

yes I know there are boots available that will take that vast amount of stretch, but by all accounts they are rubbish and I would not expect them to be anything other than so, you may have been lucky but do not expect them to last anything like the originals, Rick

Thanks to Rick, all fixed now. Should have listened from the beginning, it would have saved quite a bit of time. So: 6 bolts to remove CV assembly from shaft, clamp in vice, one light tap needed with a soft hammer - and there you go, easy access for cleaning and greasing up. I did mark the shaft and the CV assembly to make sure everything went back as it was installed, not sure this was necessary but it wouldn't hurt either :)

I had the same issue as you: found out the lower wishbone bump stops were gone. Cleanly rusted off :)

New ones on order now, from Febest. Part nr ND-009, see here. About the only place I found them...

Do check your upper arms... Mine are hollow so the standard bumps to nothing.... Dunno if arms are aftermarket.. :nenau

After doing a search here on the forum and seeing your post about the hollow upper arms, I checked before I ordered :)

Mine are definitively standard, so not hollow.
