As it happens, i've just had both my front outboard boots changed, as they were both split to buggery.
Alas its a bugger of a job- budget 1.5hrs per side if all goes well:
Jack / axle stand / remove road wheel.
Remove auto hub.
Remove brake caliper and tie out the way. retreive pads.
Remove brake disk
Remove lock washers and dismantle wheel bearing, release drive shaft.
Remove cotter pins, and split lower ball joint and steering arm joints with ball joint splitter.
Manouver hub to allow drive shaft to come out of hub.
Remove gaitor cleaning joint of oil grease.
Locate circlip and remove or compress and remove joint from shaft.
Apply new gaitor, snap joint back onto shaft.
Squeeze new grease bloody everywhere, wrestle with silly (and bloody sharp) clips, pinging them off into dark corner several times.
Re-assemble above.
I had the garage do it, as i knew it hadnt been apart before, if ever, and it took them 3 hrs to do both sides with the know-how and tools at their disposal. Plus i really hate UJ grease!!
