You can just say you've just found out and aren't best pleased. Usual buy back is around 20% of the write off value :thumb2
Get it back flog the parts etc while enjoying a new truck for work
Depends how bad the damage really is but when I wrote mine off a few years back, it only cost me few second hand bits to rebuild it. Insurance co. have to use new , hence the write off

On the plus side, I didn't sign anything on the V5 so maybe that would point towards me not handing it over. The implication in the letter requesting them was that it was to aid processing my claim :sly

Having spoken to the insurers, the offer made for the vehicle includes the title and salvage value has been set at £276. I don't have the time to break it myself and I can't afford to wait for it to be repaired, so would anyone care to make me an offer for it rather than just give it to insurers? Everything worked on it, 172,000 mile TDi engine and gearbox are good, all 4 doors and tailgate are rust free, electric windows all work fine, 4 decent tyres on scruffy non-original alloys, tonneau cover and 3rd row of seats. Only bad point was broken rear bumper and obviously the front end damage which was near side front medium/light. Would certainly make money for somebody if they have time and space to repair or break, and I would rather it was of use to somebody as it was of use to me
