Hi

I know this is a long shot but does anyone have a crankshaft timing sensor for a 1997 2.7TD Maverick GLS. It is the sensor located at the front of the engine and is 22ml diameter.

It is impossible to source one in France, where I live, and the price for a new one through Ford UK is sadly more than the vehicle is worth. It would eat up my month pension in one go :(

Ever hopeful ............

Aud1 A3 sensor works, have to cut the plug off and just join the wires, also need to make a spacer as it is longer than the Nissan one, £9.99 on Ebay "motorseamus" any problems give me a shout Rick

I'm sure I've got a brand new one in it's original Ford box at home

I'll have a look tonight :thumb2

Thank you Banshee, most grateful.

The ford part number is 1959192, manufactured by Bosch.

I think he forgets he is actually driving a Nissan, my post earlier is a link to a direct replacement for reasonable price as anther member on here got one.
Best to always try Nissan rather than Ford for parts anyway.
The part you require is 259777F400

Hi Teaman if your sensor is mounted on the front timing cover then it will be a Zexel set up and doubt if you CPS is Bosch, unless some body has used an alternative part in the past, the Bosch type is mounted on the Bell housing and is a different size, how do you know yours has failed? Rick

Hi solarman216, I don't know it is a Bosch. The part number was given to me by Ford spares dept in the UK. Someone suggested it is probably manufactured by Bosch though this may now be doubtful.
I know it has failed because when the technician tested it it came up with the crankshaft timing sensor fault code. When I disconnected it it ran a lot better though far from perfect.
You are probably right in what you are saying about the part. I purchased the vehicle 2nd hand so may have had alterations.

Paul

ps, sorry for the late reply

Mav 98, thank you for your link/info. I may well be investing in one.

Mmmm sounds very odd to me, if you disconnect it will it start? it should not if it is bad, if it does start then it suggests to me the sensor itself is fine but is contaminated by metallic dust buildup which will not give an accurate timing signal, easy to sort, just remove it and check if it has much metallic fluff around the head just wipe it off with a rag, Rick

When it was connected it ran in 'limp home' mode so I disconnected it and it runs but judders if the engine is not 'pulling'.

A really big thank you to Mav 96. I ordered the part you recommended and fitted it today. The engine management light has gone and the engine now runs very nicely.
Thanks again ..........
