Hi all,
I think i've finally found my crank shaft sensor (located just behind the fan partially hidden by the alternator), just to confirm this is this a pic of it?

Also it didn't seem too cacked up so my intermittent fault (47) could mean its fubared, any1 any idea on the cost,
does this go straight back to the ecu too as i'll have to check wiring 1st before forking out the cash for a new part (assuming cleaning hasn't fixed fault)

Cheers in advance Ryan

(I have dropped this in hummingbird, it looks like a photo of a photo, i will remove your post as this is now sorted.
Thanks)

I have that one in the front but i also have one at the rear of the engine under the inlet manifold

is it easy to spot as i've struggled to see ne thing not even wires.
I haven't looked too much under mani so will look tonight.
Can you narrow down its position (does it look the same?) as its all cacked up under there which maybe the fault touch wood.

Its a long time since i had mine out i seem to think that its directly under the manifold if you were to have the gearbox off and view the engine from the rear it would be at about the 2 oclock position

Is it just above the starter motor and wears a rubber boot? Not sure if this im looking at there is an oil sensor cos it looks screwed into the engine.
I had a look but as you'll know its not the best area to access and didn't want to take it out and end up regretting it and covered in oil.
Its doing my block in a bit finding this elusive faulty part thought i'd cured it when i found the sensor in the front but that hadn't got too dirty, any idea what this parts job is.
I've got the nissan comp prog the car but thats no use identifing it either.

SA over thanks Ryan

no mines mounted in the gearbox bellhousing I have the earlier tdi with the hitachi mafs sensor if you have a bosch system they may be different I will have a look when i see the car next I have had to leave it at a friends farm as we dont have any room on our drive and I am getting ear ache from the other half to get it sold.

Mines Bosch and its in the bell-housing, I can see mine ok with no EGR. I will try and get a photo tomorrow.

Just a bit of extra info, its a hitahi set up.

egr valves still there but blocked pipe, how do u go about removing it seen as its just a spare part now or is it best to leave well alone

Cheers Ryan

i shall have another look this sat although mine has an awfull lot more oil sprayed about down there,
does yours have the sensor positioned just behind the fan as well? Alt side the pic i supplied is of a sensor on mine,

Cheers ryan

Hello all. I have a 1999 tri auto 2.7. Mine is the zexel/hitachi setup. So mine is the sensor behind fan near altinator? Grey wire going to 3 pin plug.

Could be.
but mine is on bell housing at back of engine
tdi 1997

managed to find online for little over £100, with luck it helps. then need to fix fault 18/34, they relate to fuel... but maybe relate to the crank sensor...

I had the same issue, all faults went away with new CKP, so fingers crossed. Often with these cars you get "false" codes, dependent on the part that has failed, as the CKP does so much, false codes can be thrown up due to problems with timing, fuel injection etc etc:thumbs

With luck, me too.

Will hold off on new injector No1 for now then. With luck the stall issue and codes 18 34 go away with new crank sensor.

I used to get the CKP fault code but I don't anymore, still stall at times, more so on a hot day, but get other error codes instead that relate to fuel so the computer thinks. Little luck and in a few days install new ckp and problems gone. If not then need new no1 injector too.

finally got round to gettin under and trying to sort sensor.... no luck, isnt the same type. connection is different, and the magnet isnt the same size.

my original is a 3pin with a white/grey plug. one i purchased is also 3 pin, but a smaller black plug.

my original has no part numbers or anything on it so not sure whats part i should look for.

I bought one of these for my Maverick that has the sensor on the timing cover.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A3-A...rts_SM&fits=Car+Make:Audi&hash=item4855efa97f

Fitted it with a suitable spacer to get the correct clearance as the original and checked the wires to correspond with the original, it has run faultlessly since.

I had to cut and solder the wires, the plugs are totally different

thank you for your reply. For the price I will order that. Do you have a guide or anything as to the 3 wires, like one one from the new sensor I wire to the old plug... Or are the wires the same colour anyway (black, red, greyish)?

Thank you for any help you can give me.
