As per title guys, follow on from my last thread starter now replaced it turns over as it should, earth taken off cleaned back to bare metal, immobiliser light goes off when turning truck over as it should.

But if I tow start the truck it starts no probs

What's stopping it ??

Anyone fancy having a look at it for me before it gets a large metal object repeatedly smashed against it !!!

If it was a pertrol engine I would suggest the ing switch.
It may be turning off the fuel pump when it turns off the wipers/radio etc.

Try disconnecting the starter then bump starting it? with the key in the start position, process of elimination, if it wont start you have the answer
Or disconnect the starter, bump start it then turn key to start position, if it stops............

If it was my Peugeot van I know where the power goes in, no idea on my Mav

If you know check there is power there when cranking.

The real answer will not be far away.

Power to glow plugs ? Do they work individually ?

I'd also put a fuel filter on it. And could it be drawing air, are the fuel lines ok over axle ?

I had this problem.

However, mine was due to me runing on cooking oil. As soon as i swapped back to diesel for the winter its was fine. So my point is, have you change the fuel filter because it could be gobbed up and thats stopping the fuel getting through, as i said mine would fire on a tow or bump start but not just cranking it over. I think its cos there is more presure on a tow than normal cranking forcing the fuel into the pump.

Its just a guess, but worked for me.

All very good points that I would never have thought off but make complete sense, I hope you get this sorted mate :thumbs

BTW, if you have a mate that works at Halfords the Fuel Filters for our trucks on trade can be picked up for £7.50 :sly:sly

Maybe i should of said more "Suction" as apposed to "Presure" because the Terrano is a suction pump there is no fuel pump forcing fuel to it, but you get what i was saying.

.

Hi guys a little update I changed the battery for a decent brand new heavy duty battery and hey presto she fired up after 3/4 turns of the starter motor and runs perfect I'm so happy

Thanks for all your help guys

Also reconnected the abs sensor the previous owners mechanic must of removed to get starter out and didn't reconnect thus leaving an abs light on the. Dash which was my next thing on the list to do.:thumbs:thumbs

That's weird :S, I thought it didn't fire on the battery from your other Terrano though?

I'm not convinced you've found the fault - if there is enough energy to crank the engine over, there is more than enough to keep the solenoid open.

I think you've disturbed a bad connection - possibly battery terminal feed to fuse box?
