hi chaps,

i have a fault on my Crankshaft Position Senser, so I decided it might be good to just replace it. does anyone know where I can get one> I cant find any anywhere! and i think the faulty one is causing poor running/stalling...

hope you can help!

Hi clivvy,

Have you tried Thornton 4x4 Breakers in Thornton, Bradford?
Not too far away :thumbs

for something like that I'd go to a main dealer for a new one - no good puuting a used part on, may well fail the following week and then you're back to square one. I would at least price it up even if you decide its too expensive.

If your going for a genuine part I'd try all of these, as for some reason part prices vary from dealership to dealership??? :nenau

thanks for this guys, i didnt know about the bradford place, will ring them this weekend, will also try the nissan branches, but i called andrew pages today, they say its special order at £62, seems a bti much to me for a sensor?

ayway, where IS the sensor?

i had another look tonight after reading the manual, still cant confidently locate the cps. i checked one sensor which is just next to the starter motor, could that be it? the connections looked good, but the two wires a re visible (black tape peeled off) and rubber housing damaged and loose. re fitted and re checked codes, error still there. left to idle for a good 20 mins, all ok, but maybe a little too low idle and the odd very slight "hunt" (i listen to the vibrations of the engine, and it soemtimes lifts as if its going to stall...)

Doesn't seem that bad a price to me. I was quoted £160 from Ford garage:eek:
What age is your truck ? They were positioned on the front of the engine to the left of the alternator and behind the fan, or on top of the bell housing somewhere I think.

mines a 97 td i....sorry for being thick, whats the "bell housing"? my problem is i just cant find or get any information about where the cps sensor actually is!

Hi Clivvy, the bell housing is the case between the back of the engine and the gear box which usually houses the clutch. On some vehihcles it looks more like a bell than others.
Have you got the manual for the T2? Zippy usually knows the web link to it so if you ask him I'm sure he'll come back with it.

hmm, i might know where you mean. i do have manuals from the downloads, but they dont make sense compared to what i have. in one, the connector for the cps comes up past the starter to where the ground is earthed, and connects to a plug on the loom, well, on my loom i have a plug, but the plug has a sicker on it, so isnt used. all i can find is a plug by the starter motor that comes up through the loom, cant see where it comes out!! arrgghh!!!

ok, here is what i THINK is the cps. Imagine the starter solenoid plug, well, the one next to it is the thing i think is the cps, going into the side of the lower engine...

any ideas guys? i still cant find the cps sensor!!

Clivvy go to the EC section of the manual and check out pages 145 and 385...should tell you what you need to know.

Think about it logically Cliv, its most likely positioned so it can see the edge of the flywheel...:thumbs

hmm..ok, sorry, I am not as mechanically minded as most!! will try again...

Hey whats with the apology??? We're all in this together!:thumbs

But a bit of logic always helps....if you think about it, the crankshaft is buried in the bottom of the engine so not easily accessible, and the only obvious major component moving at exactly the same time as the crank is the flywheel, which is why it has physical markings on it for TDC or Top Dead Centre (usually for No1 piston) for use when setting timing manually. There are other cogs (the one bolted to the end of the crank that drives the timing gears for example) that also move in sync, but the flywheel is the only one big enough to get an easy, accurate position reading from because of its large diameter...

So I'm assuming that the crankshaft sensor is looking at a pickup of some kind also on the flywheel....in fact one of the pics from the manual above shows it close to the front corner of the rocker cover...

HAS ANYONE WHO KNOWS FOR SURE GOT ANY PICS?? C'MON LADS!!!!!:D
