couple of things

eyup. so I have had the maverick for a few days now and learning about its niggles and that, so i wanted to check a few things. First, clutch. I can change gear just fine, and it seems ok, but i am used to a sharper clutch on my Mazda mx6. Its bite seems high ish, maybe halfway its hard to tell, the pedel sort of pops up when i let it out, is this right? sorry if the description is a bit rubbish.

second, got a odd little leak in the passenger footwell. Pretty sure its rainwater, as it was fine weekend. Its just odd drips, but i cant see where its coming in.

er...thats it, i aint got any other problems with it (not that the above are problems-just me learning i suppose), all i got to do is fit new brake shoes this week...

hope you can advise. bear in m ind this is my first maverick, and only my second 4x4, so i suppose 4x4's are still new to me.

but the secone, have you got a sun roof?

if so check the sunroof drain pipe, in down load section.

Clutch thing sounds normal - think its the effect of the damper pipe - mine feels awful too.

Check the bulkhead/inner winner joint area for rust, can be hidden behind the rubber inner wing to chassis bridging strip, my old one ruste through big time there.

Check that the clutch pedal return spring isnt broken

agree totally with terranosaurus, check where the inner wing joins the bulkhead. mine had rot there that was loosing the water high up in the footwell, running down and soaking the carpet. sealed it, no more wet feet and steamy windows.

Thanks wayne, will take a look, I have a workshop manual that might help me. Today there was just litterally a couple of drips, thats after openeing and closing the sunroof last night, so I am wondering if its that, but still, I will check the join you mention...

If I remember right there is also a drain that chokes where the water drains from the grill at the wipers and water can come in through the heater.

to be honest, that sounds more like the issue, i got the impression it was form that sort of area. any idea where the drain is? i did look, but couldnt see anything...

Again from memory, it drains out on top of the gearbox. Look for a hose low down the bulkhead. I'd run some water in to see if some comes out the drain or into the car before you strip it.

You need to take wipers, grill and plastic trim off and its a pain due to the plastic clips

A common place for water to enter the passenger footwell is through a blanking plate directly above the blower intake under the plastic trim along the bottom of the windscreen, there is a gasket under the plate that fails, water running off the screen runs over this plate and if the gasket is dodgy will leak through and fall directly in to the air intake and in to the foot well. If your going to remove the wiper arms and trim it may be worth resealing the plate.
