Couple of Questions

Modifications continue on the Patrol and I have booked a Ferry to northern Spain next October for my visit to Morocco. Couple of queries can I get a Sat Nav DVD for North Africa and can I get an extended fuel tank without going to Australia!

I think you might be able to get a long range fuel tank over here but not to sure. Bat21 should be able to help you with Q's about travelling to & around Morocco as he's done it a couple of times:thumb2

TBR in the Midlands do a 145 lit re tank it's £1200 I'm looking at one next.

Ouch. Devon 4x4 do one at £1063 and I thought that was horrendously expensive.

The other issue is the big tanks all hang down below the body. not a good idea if you intend to go off road. :augie

That does sit low think it would need some protection added but that would have to sit lower again:doh Ianinessex as he's going to Morocco he will be off roading:augie A full length roof rack with extra jerry cans might be a better & cheaper option

I like the full length roof rack. I have one. :thumb2

My concern with these is the security of anything on there. Even outside my house, I would not leave anything valuable on there unless it was locked down. Travelling through foreign parts, I would have concerns about things disappearing.

The other issue which I am starting to realise is that it stops you being able to go into quite a number of places as the car is now too high to get in. Multi story car parks are a definite no-no.

Another issue with the roofracks is centre of gravity too. Make some kind of carrier for towbar or rear bumper for jerry cans

But there will be the occasional ferry with a height limit. My 'trol is way too high for the car section of the channel tunnel. All these things cost more as you end up in with the coaches and small goods vehicles.

Yes roof mounting fuel cans isn't the best thing for centre of gravity but a trol is nice & wide so very stable, as for security you can get looking fuel can holders. Another option would be to have a swing away rear tyre mount made up then could carry 2 spares or 1 spare & fuel cans loads of different options:thumbs
Multi story car parks are over rated & gave up on them as kept hitting beams with the aerial & with my last T2 just couldn't fit in with the roof lights:lol don't care now have a nice blue badge so if I can't find a parking space Mr double yellow lines do as long as it's safe to do so:thumbs

Sorry I must point out something. Sine the body lift I have a huge gap between the body and the tank, surely that extra 2" could be utilised to mount the fuel tank higher (if you had a body lift) thus keeping it out of harms way :thumb2

I can actually reach the top of the tank with my hand :thumb2

But mine came straight out of the packing and fitted on with no cutting and welding. :clap Also, as it is low profile, it has not changed the mpg and does not add much wind noise.

The place I got it from does do a bigger one (as the pic, girl not included. :naughty) but I wanted the flat section at the back to get big sheets of fencing flat on it.

I am booked on the ferry at the 2.0 metre ht so a Jerry Can on a full roof rack seems a reasonable option. I am concerned about security but I think I can manage that. Is there any advice on a suitable CB radio. I am aware about the difficulties of crossing into Morocco with a CB but think it is worthwhile fitting but not sure what is best.
