As the title suggests, is it worth the cost, possible problems and general hassle to run on SVO these days, considering the price of veggy oil is pretty close to diesel

Wohoooooo first thread sir!!! :thumb2

I would def say that it is, even at these temps I'm still running around 90% SVO which I'm currently picking up from Costco at £15.49 for 20 litres which goes straight in the tank, at 77p a litre I'm not going to moan considering Diesel round here is still £1.36 a litre

On a Mav or Terrano thats been brimmed at 72 litres here's the savings;

72 litres Diesel @ £1.36 per litre - £97.92
72 litres SVO @ 77p - per litre - £55.44

Which makes a saving of £42.48 PER TANK!!!!!!!!

You decide mate :thumbs

the only comment I have here is that when I bought my current off road motor a 2.7 TDi it had half a tank of stuff that smelt like a chippy, it was poor on starting and would not pull the skin off a rice pudding as it got diluted with red derv and with the addition of a maff amp I now cannot seem to keep front shafts for very long, just a general observation as my road going motors are petrol but soon to change for the wifes motor as she has a nice TDi that I am sorting for her, then I will do some proper tests to evaluate the two, Rick

Don't you add petrol? If so that will increase the cost a bit.

But rapeseed is a better SVO then say soya.

For human consumption or for combustion purposes for running an engine?

Because I can't tell the difference between pure rapeseed and Soya Derived Veg at all

have a look on the veg forum, Some do say it's ok but others say it does not burn as well as rapeseed. Can cause ring gumming. Also it's thicker in cold weather.

something I noticed with my Patrol when running 100% veg in the summer months it ran fine, pulled well (towing 24ft tintent) but developed a leak at the pump which was pretty bad (pulled air into system and wouldn't start). Anyway cleaned filter out and put some diesel in and runs fine again and now doesn't leak:confused:.
So now im unsure whether to try veg again and if I do maybe mix it.

Mine ran ok on ktc for 8 months, but got worse to the point it spluttered and put the mil light on in the summer. Changed to rape and it was fine. Tried ktc again only 20L with 3 Ltrs of petrol to thin it and it was shite again
