Looking to wire in a multi point cigarette charger unit, like with 3 or 4 connectors.

Surely this isnt supposed to be run off of 1 socket?

Is it meant to be wired to the battery? :nenau

a single socket i think is rated 15amp so if you put a 3 or 4 way in it the total cant be more than 15a.if you only want to plug in say a phone, satnav etc it will be fine but do not put a inverter or lighter on as well.

Mine just plugged in ran CB, satnav etc off it fine but as said before depends on what your wanting to run off it, if it's higher loads forget the 3-4 way plug in jobs as the wiring on them won't handle the amps so a second fuse box would be needed along with a 100A+ power cable to it:augie

I will want to fit something that can perm run dash cam, along with occasional satnav and possibly something else :nenau

Well the normal plug in 3-4 way ones should be fine then, just plug it into your cig lighter socket & off you go:augie

Oh right, I was under the impression this was not a good idea, loads of load through one cgi socket. :nenau

Cheers :thumb2

Your satnav will draw about 2 amps (my TomTom does) & your dash cam will poss draw 2-3amps (should have it in the paper work how many amps it draws) so your still a long way off the 15A load, when you think about it, it takes some current to get the metal coils in the cig lighter glowing to light a fag. The other option would be to use an add a fuse http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Add-A-Cir...t=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item486426a3ec & use an ignition live on the fuse box but not one of the higher rated fuses thou but something rated 10A or under

Aha I understand now... The other issue is cosmetics, the standard placement of the cig bit is proper crap  right infront of the gearstick...

But even the thin wire running from single to multi will be 15amp rated?

Lastly if the fuse does go is it one in the bonnet fuse box?

The cig lighter fuse is under the dash with loads of others, you could tap into the cig lighter wiring behind the dash & just make up a little patch lead i've done this to run power into the cubby hole for my gauges & for the switch for my footwell lights & still use the cig lighter socket for my satnav, once the gauges get replaced the cb is going in the cubby hole & will be powered off the patch lead, had it like this in my last T2 & never had any probs in 2 years

now that is a good question, the thin wire, take plug apart and read fuse, should be the same as one in car but worth checking.
fitting the multy way one is where you can and plug other plugs into it.
it will have 2 screw fixings on the bottom.
working out amps used is divide total watts by 12 that gives amps drawn,ie 100watts works out at 8amps.

Shouldn't that am page be more like 7 amps as most of the time the volts are more like 14 ? Just an observation :augie

with engine running yes it works out at 7.14285714amps or 8.00amps for a battery thats 12.5v.:thumbs
