Been reading on here of late that some of you guys have been using the Consult II cable with ECUTalk to read fault codes and view live data on gauges from the Consult port under the fusebox.

I purchased this Consult cable as all the rest seem to explicitly state they are not Windows 7 compatible;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301089103485?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I received it yesterday morning and I'm very impressed with it, the software is free to download from here;

http://www.ecutalk.com/ecutalk.aspx

I was very impressed with the results and I'm still tinkering with the settings etc but overall I'm very impressed indeed. It also gives the facility to read and clear fault codes without having to use the paperclip trick and refer back to the workshop downloads to tie up codes etc etc

Let me know if there's anything I can answer for you :thumbs

But I would recommend this to anyone I know :D

hi mate , on the settings of ECUtalk have changed any of the values in the options menu ? ie injector size cc/min,
also when you have the gauges displayed can you go back to the main menu ?

i think i`m having computer problems as i cant shut the software down (running XP)

yep been playing with mine for a while using windows 7 laptop and usb adaptor.
can you check on 1 reading for me the control sleeve position. thanks

For the 2.7TDi the injector size has to be adjusted from 250 to 270

To get back to the main menu once the gauges are up you'll need to double click anywhere in the middle of the screen and it will go back to the screen where you can select the gauges to be displayed

this is from mine today

When I first got my Ecutalk and consult cable,I played around with it for a while on my windows 7 laptop, until I got an error message saying something like this could cause serious damage to you computer.
That's why I got an old dell with windows XP on it .
So I think it could be right that it's not compatible, even though some seem to have no problems:confused:

I have a 2001 T2 with a 16 pin connector under the dash. What do I need to be able to read the codes and engine parameters?. :nenau

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread.

.

unfortunatly i cant read whats what it wont enlarge with out distorting

sorry about that, i will try again to post a bigger screen shot (i`m new to this)

just having a few teething problems :doh,
this really interest`s me and would like to learn more,
this could be of great interest and value to all members in diagnosing faults, rather than using guess work and changing unnecessary parts

Not entirely sure as I've not seen that connector

I'll see if I can do a bit of digging

yes it can be used when driving,

best to sit in the passenger seat with laptop on your knee, let somebody else drive tho, there`s lots of info to digest
depends on your laptop but you have to choose which comm port to use,
mines using comm 3 for some reason,

good for the code reading and resetting,

i`m still playing around with it and learning,
we could do with knowing what the values should be when a car is running properly, to compare with one that has running problems

Don't worry about that, it won't do anything.

Any of the consult cables will be compatible with windows 7 as it's a serial connection. No drivers needed unless you use it with a usb to serial adaptor, then you need drivers for the usb to serial adaptor.

Only the software (ecutalk) has to be compatible which is not affiliated with the consult cable. It's compatible anyway so no worries there.

Theres also a good chance all the consult cables are the exact same inside anyway.

Perfect, if we can get someone to take readings who is confident that their car is running sweet I'll knock up a download :thumb2

The nail....... He's hit it on the head :thumb2

does anyone know what there readings should be ?

if we can get everyone with this software to post their readings ,
then we can get an average of what they should be

we could do with knowing what the values are when a car is running properly, to compare with one that has running problems

anyone up for posting their readings ?

I'm up for it , First thing is to make sure everyone is working with the same settings so we need a list of those so we can set up the ECUtalk the same.
Then decide what reading we are taking and set up the gauges the same
Then we are all on the same page and there's no confustion:thumbs
Also I dont think its worthposting screen shots as most of the time they uare too blurry to read, just the readings. :thumb2

i agree with you on the screenshots, too small to view,
like you say just write down what the readings are,

as for the options in the settings, the injector size is the only variable

banshee reckons it should be set to 270 cc/min,
going to call at the local diesel garage and see if this can be confirmed

maybe we should start a new thread for posting the readings on ?
