Sorry non Terrano post warning!!!

I am just setting up our 10ft Intex swim pool and this year I have bought an Intex pool heater.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/INTEX-Electric-Pool-Heater-220-240V/dp/B000SO8CS0

This has to be plugged into the wall not used on an extension lead, so I removed the RCD plug and pushed the wire through into out study to use a wll socket.

No question...

I made a note where the wire came from and even took a photee, when I went to fix the wires back the earth was OK in the middle connection, but the blue was on the L and the brown on the N.

Do I fit them the correct way or leave them as it came from the factory or does it not matter as it is just a heating coil?

Thanks...

Personally, I would fit them the right way round, as any fuses, switches and other safety devices at the heater end, should be on the "Live" side, and if you wire it the other way round, they are not actually protecting anything.

To be honest, I would also send the picture you took, along with why you did what you did, to trading standards, as that is very bad.

I have just rung Intex UK asking if I can removed the RCD plug (it can be unscrewed) and at first they said if I cut or even removed the RCD the warranty is void, OK I said but that is the only way I can get it to the mains without using a extension lead ( that also voids the warranty). They then said as long as I got an electrician to do it, that would be fine with them. She then said if it had to be returned under warranty they ask for the RCD/Plug to be cut off anyway so don't mention anything about removing it if you need to return it Ha Ha!

Just seems strange that the BLUE was wired to the L and BROWN wired to the N from the factory... See attached, you can't see the markings on the RCD but left is L, middle E and right N.

As it is a heater it matters not which way round the L & N are and the RCD will work just the same as it measures the current on both wires and trips out if there is a small imbalance, Rick

I had thought that, it's just a big kettle element, but I was not sure if it would affect the RCD operation. Oh well it is wired up correctly now. Thanks all :thumb2

I agree, however, if the device had a switch, then that would be better on the live side of the device, as would any additional fuses.
Then the wiring would matter.

Rustic you are correct as usual, as in all probability there is a thermostat on the system to control temperature and this should be on the Live, Rick

Dedicated power supply I would have thought is needed

I am no electician but I thought all outside items such as Hot Tubs and Pools should have a dedicated power supply with trip fuse and RCB with no additional items connected to them.

I personally would not wire one into my existing ring main as if it does not breach wiring regulations it does to my mind breach common sense rules.

Many such items are marketed as plug & play (2Kw) this might not be a technical breach more against the spirit of electrical safety rules.

Also you might want to consider an emergency switch off point should something serious happen as time is of the escence in an emergency - think they have to be a set distance from the Pool itself - 2 Metres ?
