Not a happy bunny

So the last conversation I had with the guy in the workshop at work was that he was going to see if anyone could cut the metal panels to size if I ordered them. The enxt thing I know, I get a text out of the blue today saying they were here and had been cut

£90 for the sheet of metal and a drink for the guy for cutting them so I'm now £100 lighter but the thing that's worrying me the most is that it's 3mm Steel and each panel weighs the same as a small horse :( :doh

I'm worried they are going to be too heavy to attach to the car

What do you guys suggest?

Well if ever a dignitary comes to the West Midlands, and he needs a bullet proof car, then they will know where to come.

:augie

Most panels are around say 1.5 mm, ( often less ) so it's only twice that, so if the car had an inner and an outer panel, you are around the same with 3mm

So as long as they are secure and don't fall off...

It's just the weight I'm worried about  :(

They are so so so heavy

For lightweight, security and ease of working have you considered polycarbonate sheeting. 4mm will withstand a pounding with a lump or even sledge hammer you can cut it with a jig saw. Will take paint with an appropriate primer or have it vinyl wrapped any colour you like, or chrome/carbon effect whatever.

Whatever you go for make up a cardboard pattern so you get the fit right, with polycarbonate you could make a wooden pattern and then use a router to cut it out which would give a better edge than a jigsaw.

weight wise what you are adding is relatively small, but is well strong, the tools I carry on a daily basis are more than 8 times that and I can still pile in a load of builders material, Rick

Thanks for the replies guys

I've now decided again that I'm going to go windows again

James has a T2 in that has factory smoked windows and I'm going to put those in :thumb2

I brought some cheese wire and handles and practiced on a Maverick in the scrap yard ;) this time I managed to get the bonded window out without shattering it :clap

Easy when you have the right tools, I even managed to bag the seals and all clips without damaging a single one  :bow

Yeah I was thinking about that but was reluctant as I'm worried about stuff in the back rolling around and scratching the tints off the windows :doh

These one's I'm taking off James are smoked at the factory so no worries about anything coming in contact with the glass from the inside :sly

You could have just sprayed them in and out ;)

Good luck mate!!!!

I've just purchased some Window bond from a guy in Warwick who fits windows professionally, make sure you're stuff has the primer!!!!!

I've ordered up some of that stuff on the link above.

Any specific a divide on removing the windows, I see the pics with the wire for back window. Does the forward window fit okay with hinge / opening mechanism.
Also, any particular order for removing the trim bits to make life easy?

Ta
