My terrano has been doing this for a while now, on cold mornings etc it will missfire for about 2 to 5 minuits on tick over, I've replaced all 4 glowplugs, buzz bar, earth for bb, relays and the control module but it'll still misses and smokes badly, I let it idle until happy, itll idle at about 500 rpm untill the miss fire stops then rise upto about 900, this is when cold, any ideas? As its got me stumped, could be the actual wireing?:nenau I doubt it, the engine needs a overhaul anywas, I'm going to replace the top half with the top parts from my 80 thousand mile engine as its in great nic. This spews oil in various places like the breathers, throttle body etc., I think oil has gotten into places it shouldn't of , but when running, it sounds ok, just the usual clattering:lol

Possibly a bit low on tick over revs :nenau turn it up to about 700 and see what happens.
You could have an injector on the way out

raise the revs? how would one do that? mines a bit lumpy in this cold weather running on veg oil

Does the TD or TDi not have fast idle until the engine is up to temp?

I know my Focus and Fiesta used to do this but not sure on the Maverick I've never bothered to hang around long enough

Mine does, but it seems to be related to outside temp, rather than engine temp, as when it was cold and snowy last week, it lifted the revs to about 900 to 1000, where as normally they sit around 500. But if the temp is anything above freezing, it does not seem to bother.

I don't think so

Glowplugs, ;) started up in the snow today and it did without any problems, I heated more than once so fine, i now know to heat it atleast twice when cold :thumb2 runs sweet

how do you do that as mine idles bout 500rpm & bout 700rpm when warm....i usually just pull the hand throttle out before start up cos other wise its a nuisance & cuts back out.

As far as I can remember you just adjust the throttle cable stopper nut/bolt thingy. Just follow the cable and you'll see :thumbs Do it when it's warmed up properly though
