Hi guys, I have an odd sound coming from my clutch pedal if I let it up fast, a kind of clanging clunk, seems to be coming from under my left foot.
If I let the pedal up slowly the sound is a sorta clang a while after my foot is off the pedal.

I have had a look around the area, there is no sign of anything clearly wrong or broken, the action of the clutch does not seem to be affected.
Anyone else had something similar?
Puzzled of sarfend

have a look up under the pedal bracket, you should see a coil spring, look at it carefully it may be broken causing your noise, Rick

Thanks Rick I will look later today, if it is that how easy to fix and where to get a spare?

I was going to post a similar question today aswell.

Ive always had the CLunk you have had if the pedal is let up fast or your foot slips from it, ive driven the car for 12 months and its been fine :augie i never realized there was a spring, and just assumed this was normal! :nenau

What has developed today, is the pedal is snagging about half way up, would this be the cable fraying within the outer?

Other things to look for...
Fixing bolts through the body have been known to tear the steel clutch bracket.
Quick fix can be large washers.

Pivot bushes can wear, permanant fix is make some new ones. One way is to buy a couple of recessed brass ball batches from B&Q or similar, cut off the closed ends, to the correct length, remove ball and spring if course after.
You are then left with a " Top Hat "
If the dimensions are right, they fit in from either side...

Or so I am told...:thumb2
Similar to these...

clutch pedal

hi the clutch pedal is prone to come away from the spot weld that assemble it
2 bolts from the master cylinder takes the pedal off then you reweld the parts
quite a few people think the clutch failed

its more likely to be the bushes for the spring, very common problem, also the main bracket can tear around the spot welds (not so good) lastly the bracket can tear where the top bolt fixes.

Best to remove clutch box assembly & inspect all

My Bracket broke twice on my Maverick before I eventually replaced it with a new one from Rick :thumb2

I don't remember seeing the above post, I may have been on holiday or something.
How did you resolve that one?
I would have suggested a nut and bolt, probably M8 high tensile, 8.8
Drilling the holes might have been a challenge though.

When you consider the leverage, and distance from the pivot point, if you place 15 kg force on the pedal, you are probably placing 10 times that force on the bracket supports, add to that metal fatigue, through side bending, after all, we don't always push down straight onto the pedal do we?

That's a good idea Rustic will have to have a closer look at mine & try to measure it as my pedal bush is ok but there is a bit of wear in it so wanting to replace it before it fails

Funny old world...

LOL, I thought the clunking, sticking was just my vehicle, thought it was so unusual I hadn't thought to ask on the forum.:doh

They are usually quick cheap fixes in most cases, and as you know, we like that...:thumb2

How difficult is that fix above to refit or replace the bracket?

Just curious... For now :naughty

Few bolts mate, It's dead easy, easier still with the lower dash panel removed otherwise I hope you are a good contortionist :doh

I had to have my bracket welded, i also applied chemical metal for added strength, as stated the force on these is substantial, and for extra support i added a bolt through a spare hole in the base of the bracket. as you know its held in place with 2 rods diagonally positioned (& 1 up top) that also clamp the master cylinder, so i used a bolt & nut spaced correctly between the bracket & bulkhead to help prevent the bracket twisting :thumbs
