My experience, engine out by far the best, and there are many specialist clutch manufactures out there for extra duty clutches, re the engine out job, you have to drop the front diff, but believe me this is easier than taking the box out, I have done both and would only take the box out if the box was at fault, Rick

Saw Police mechanics do a few when they were running Terranos and they did it by just undoing the rear torsion bar cross member and flexing the torsion bats enough to get the box clear rather than removing the torsion bars as the manual says.
Front diff was a reall apin when i did it - getting at the 6 bolts each side that attache the driveshafts is a real pain, even with a ratchet spanner
