clutch fitting tips

can anyone give me tips on how best to do the clutch & fork on the td model?

how does the gear linkage come off if at all?

will be aiming to do it at the weekend, ant tips would be much appreciated,

be prepared for skin loss and swearing if first time!!!

some people take engine out. i prefer to drop torsion bars off and remove the box. jack the car off sills or somewhere solid that is not the lower arms then take pressure of torsion bars. remove bars, prop shafts, g box mount etc. often helps to jack front of engine slightly to slide box back (dont damage bottom pulley). its a lot of shunting and trial and error really. if you havnt got one borrow a 14mm long reach spanner for top 2 bell housing bolts. dont forget little bits like unbolting slave cylinder, g box loom, speedo cable if you have one etc.
box is heavy, get some help if you can
main gear lever is 4 x 12mm i think, put a rag in top if you take it off! small one can be unbolted on side of box and left loose hanging on. 2 or 3 x 14mm i think?

Is that the same to slid the box back or is that just more hassle than its worth?

I personally have never done a clutch never mind a 4x4 one but i want to know how :thumbs

I did mine on the drive with me and wife,got on a thred, here some were.with photos, gear box lowered down and pulled out from the side,but mine was a recon exchange box also.

if you have not got a hoist and a mobile gear box cradle, then take my advice and remove the engine, it is far safer and so much easier, Rick
