clutch?? engine light?

Hi, driving yesterday couldn't engage gear no clutch pedal pressure damn ! Thought id start it in gear and limp home 2nd ok3rd ok then a mettalic rattle engine light comes on cuts engine truck now freewheeling no drive quotes have varied and the engine light still stays on and truck won't start

what age of truck, bit hard to help with little or no info:nenau

I would guess that yours is a diesel and that the crank position sensor is on the flywheel and bits of your failed clutch have taken it out, Rick

Is yours a Tdi, model, ie intercooler with scoup on the bonnet?

Hi Rick, that was my thinking as well, hence the question about Tdi, as that wouldn't be an issue with Td.

Logic says this is the fault if all was well before.

Easy but expensive fix, as long as the bell housing is OK

New clutch, new sensor, job done and back on the road.

Sounds like a tow job or the back of a trailer or recovery to a garage.

Quite a few members have changed the clutch at home but it's a big lump.

Either gearboxes out or engine out, which can be easier and quicker.

That sounds a good price if it includes the clutch, how will you get it there?

drag the beast ! towed it 2 miles home with old fellers berlingo 1.3 but will probably use something more suitable next time . yeh mr clutch at peterboghorror was all in but will see if someone more local can do thanks again guys for your help cheers

I think collectively, we know these trucks better than any Nissan Dealer, and certainly more than the Ford dealers.

Where else on a friday night could you get a diagnosis so quick.:nenau

Sorry to be sceptical but due to me needing a clutch myself pretty soon i have been checking a few national repair chains, this is the one i found about "mr clutch"

Personally i would be a bit wary.

well, thats one of the best letters I have read in response to a complaint, superb, i shall NEVER consider Mr Clutch.

Mr Clutch is a franchise as far as I am aware and yes they've had the odd horror story, but they've been around far too long (35 years+) to be that ropey IMHO, guess you just need to find a good 'un....

Peterboghorror is my home town and I wouldn't take my wheelbarrow to the MrClutch on Lincoln road. I can recommend Cartel near the post office sorting place at Werrington - used them over 20 years and fair as anything.

Alas it seems that these big name fitters, with branches everywhere, are reliant on the people they employ and the heavy sales targets that they impose upon them. Sadly this means that they employ managers that are good at selling rather than being good at mechanical engineering.
With that said it does mean that they will have good and bad branches, and all will have had their share of complaints. Your local branch good be excellent, just be sure what you are buying before the work begins and get quotes in writing.
My advice has always been to either do it yourself, which is what I do, or find a reliable mechanic and build up trust but always check pricing periodically to keep him on his toes.

its not a difficult job to change the clutch in these, you just need a trustworthy competant person who isnt going to rip you off. most small privatly owned garages are prob your best bet over the likes of these large firms where mechanics are now extinct and they just have fitters, fancy set ups and cocky sales people to fund. thats my opinion anyway!

Totally agree, my little garage in Llandovery did a great job - and with £35/hour labour rates, what can I say LOL:lol
