Oh joy!

After getting to page 30 of old threads, I've given up looking for mentalists who have change a clutch in their Mav/Ter 2.7tdi.

I was told by a local garage that the only way they would attempt doing a clutch on the 2.7tdi was to remove the engine. That would go hand in hand with the quoted £900.00 :doh

Having sold an engine out of one that I'm breaking at work, I thought I'd take the opportunity to watch the apprentice try and take the lump out of a 1998 2.7tdi :naughty, I think I am going to opt for dropping the gearbox instead.:lol

Any previous experience with doing these?

Should make things entertaining, considering I have tendinitis in both arms

I have done many and yes engine out is by far the best unless you have full workshop kit, and I mean full, I can do a clutch in a day with a hoist, I have also dropped the box on one and for a clutch change never again, as for £900 bet the owner drives a Roller, Rick

I am fortunate enough to be blessed with full workshop facilities, if I wasn't then I'd be reaching for the can of petrol and a lighter :lol

In fact, the quote was for makeitfit's terrano and the garage actually said, even if he turned up with cash - they'd not want the job, that had nothing to do the the weeds and mud stuck to the underside.

Its not bad Rick did one a couple of months ago two bolts on the top the gearbox are a pain to get at and the gearbox is very heavy. You need to remove the rear torsion bar cross member just mark them on the splines first so they go back in the same position. One of the starter bolts need some long extensions to get at.You don't need to support the engine.

Oi I don't do de weed anymore :splif
What about undoing the transfer box first and then the gearbox off?

£900? bahahhahahahahhaaaaahahahhaa

i will be getting mine done for around £350 incl clutch kit soon.

£900.00 sounds like one of those mechanics that as soon as you speak they start shaking their heads and taking sharp intakes of breath while they are thinking of a ridiculous number.

did mine in less than a day

yup, but what annoys the hell out of me, is how they treat you like you are STUPID. OK, they are the mechanic, but I for one know enough to know that £900 for any car work (for cars this age and type) is bollocks!
