The switches undo from under the console, 2x self tappers. :thumb2

I'd keep the original switches, you'll see what I mean when you delve in there,:lol it's like spaghetti junction. :doh

They do unplug as separate units (left and right pairs), you'll see the multi plugs
when you lift the console up.:thumbs

I don't like sitting around bored.
I was in just that situation today while the misses was in the shop.
I started havin a mess with mine:eek:

I was givin it a jiggle around and that:eek:

im talkin about me centre console:D

the one in it is deffinatley shit.
I don't know if the window switches will come out and be useable after? or can I use pretty much any switch?

I think at the weekend im going to take me seats out and have a better look at what I can come up with.:naughty

be careful with the window switches,
they self destruct if you don`t take the plugs out gently from underneath, the wires are short and if you lift the consul too much without disconnecting the plugs the switch falls apart, bits everywhere

you can take the switches out care fully and re use them

You could keep the factory switches or even change them for some that light up in the dark (older fords & vauxhalls) which could be got from a breakers. If your's is a MK2 you could rip out the cubby box infront of the gear sticks & have the new console flowing smoothly upto the dash. Might have a few links somewhere if you need them Steve

to be honest I prefer to change the switches too.
but it depends on how complicated it would be.

is there any pics of other peoples attempts?

I was thinking of mdf or summat . but then I thought  what about if I go swimming and me cab floods? that wouldn't last long.

im not good with metal. but maybe I should get a cheapo welder and practice.

With the switches you'll prob just need to make up a little patch harness from the new switches that will plug into nissan's wiring at the back of the factory switches so i'd go to the breakers find the switches you like & chop off 4-6" of the wiring going to them then add tiny spade connectors to the new switch wires so they'll plug into the nissan harness:augie
To build the console either MDF or ply will do but MDF would be the easiest to shape & if you have a router or can borrow one you'll be able to round off all the corners for a more factory look:thumb2 A coating or 2 of resin (used in fibreglassing but only the resin:thumbs) will do a good job of sealing out any water. Just had a look & i've lost my links but will spend some time on one of the car audio forums I know there are some so you get an idea of your options you have
