Hello all
More problems with terrano now have a blown front flexy pipe would this cause all the blue /white smoke comming from the blown exhaust and out of the end pipe it bloow today and the smoke started today :?: although I had noticed a bit of blue /white smoke the other day. Many thanks all replies greatfully recieved

Hi
are you getting the smoke on start up,and is she a bit lumpy? like firing on three? or is it when she's warmed up?

oh and front flexipipe shouldn't have out to to with all the smoke.

Hi thanks for the reply
She was a bit lumpy on start up but thought I had sorted that with new glow plugs :?: How ever today I did put her under a lot of pressure trying out the 4x4 ( thats another story) Needed more fuel drove her to the garage to fill up and I arrived in a cloud of smoke   and the exhaust had finally given out (it had been filled with gum gum not by me :!: ) but the smoke is bothering me :!: :!:

hi willow been reading your posts,,, welcome to the club.

you seem to be not having much luck with the truck.

are the fluids all correct?

are the gauges all normal . ie not ever heating etc ?

any power loss ?

if all normal its probably dirty air filter even if it looks clean ( run without filter to see just keep away from leaves or clouds of dust )

split fuel line sucking air in (that will cause smoke)

egr valve (download) ( if you have one)

maf (download)

its worth reading all the downloads, even if you dont have that problem just to learn your way around these trucks. it take only 30 mins reading in the evening

let us know extreme-4x4

also not sure... but could be, broken exhaust could i guess effect the performance of the turbo, depends where its broken

Thanks for the reply extreme
The truck has had a full service new air fuel oil fillters and a recon fuel pump all new fuel lines and break pipes front to rear auto hubs overhauled
new brake pads and dics The garage said the fuel had water in it said it didn't know where it had come from could have been bad diesel :?: Gone down hill since think I may have to give up as I have run out of money no car   Want to call the man who sold me it a bad name. -banghead- Never mind I am still alive even if the terrano is'nt . Will have to take the tractor to work
NO loss of power not using oil so far although there is a small oil leak not sure where it is comming from :?: no lights comming on on the dash :?:
Many thanks again
Wendy

all fuel will have traces of water in it , on a diesel it normally accumulates at the bottom of the fuel filter. but this is normal ive never changed a fuel filter that had no water in it.

the first step is to chase up the exhaust bits you need... some being broken here on this site. or patch it for now

have you done the mini fuel filter ? see download

Hello again
Yes have done the mini fuel filter made sure of that. There is no lose of power as far as I know this is a new car to me and had a vw polo before.
However it pulls away well and I did have trouble with lumpy starting but new glow plugs seemed to solve that one. It smells of diesel since it came back from the garage that did the fuel pipes and brake pipes and recon fuel pump. The smoke started bad today when the exhust blow out the gum gum.
Thank you for your time

if it smells of diesel that is your problem any puddles on the floor you should not smell fuel

check your new filter is tight and sealed right
check hoses (fuel line)

patch exhaust and chase replacement parts from breaker or here

you have come this far dont give up... your truck will go anywhere you want to take it . mine nearly does but im a bit O T T with it

What about the small rubber bungs and hoses for the leak off pipes on the injectors??? I'm sure someone else can elaberate on these. I'm sure your engine problems are fuel related.

Your fuel smells can just be spilt fuel by the mechanic.

Speaking of spilt things, that drip of oil is it on the passengerside????? more often than not when the oil filter is changed oil gets spilt on the passengerside chassis leg. This spill then drips for weeks unless cleaned off.

Wendy your truck seems to be getting you down, don't let it. These trucks rarely seem to suffer serious problems so I'm guessing your truck just needs a little TLC.

ok so since it came back from the garage it smells of diesel,

now while its true a spil will smell but that usually get wiped up and even if left it wont have that fresh continuous diesel smell

if you can still smell diesel, you will have a fuel leak and a fuel leak will let air in the system and cause lumpy starting and smoke

other than that its a part for the exhaust - halfords repair till you have funds for proper fix

Dont give up willow i'm sure you are nearly there

Extreme 4x4 has hit the nail on the head its sounds like a fuel leak which is letting in air causing smoke and lumpy performance

get the garage that put the fuel pipes on to chek it as you can still smell fresh diesel.
They should be only too happy to if they want your custom again.

Not to detract from willows overall problem, are there any weak spots where these things leak diesel (as in most cars do have an achilles heel of some sort :? ).

The reason I ask is I have a small diesel leak which I'm about to tackle, it is small but not obvious without dismantling. It manifests itself dripping from the steering rack area. Definitely diesel and no other assosicated problems.

Any pointer gratefully accepted before the spanners come out

Thanks for the words of encouragement extreme
I will start by having a word with the garage who fitted the fuel pipes fuel pump etc see what they have to say. But if it is going to cost loads to put right I simply have't the money I have already spent £900 on it on top of buying it and it still has no 4 wheel drive which is what I bought ot for in the first place

it should cost nothing to put right, it had no leak or smoke before they worked on it. dont accept anything less

i will be happy to explain that to the garage for you

its more than likely just something loose or not fitting right , i bet they will be happy to put it right no charge

thought you had 4wd now ?

Thanks extreme
I thought I had 4 wheel drive but no :( Replaced the rings on one hub as shown in workshop 16 the other hub looked ok nothing broken or missing. Put it back together and tried it again still no drive to the front wheels  Ian has been talking me through this one  He is a very patent man  Just like to thank all of you for all the words of encouragement I think I would have given up by now if not for you lot -cheers-

Hi all
It seems I am now running 2 threads in this section I am sorry dont know how that happened  Dont what to take up space others need so will continue on this thread for 4wheel drive and smokey engine. The garage has it back today to look at smokey engine hope they can get to the bottom of it but I agree it did'nt do it before it went in for the fuel pipes ,filter and fuel pump recon so hopefully it is an air leak :?: Thanks again for your time
Wendy

-welldone- -cheers- :D Thanks Extreme jim T thermostat Ian and all of you that have kept me going nearly gave up yesterday  I have just got terrano back from the garage they said it was a pipe off the injector leaking diesel and letting in air they think as the fuel pump is now like new it caused exta pressure and blew the pipe off the injector so you were right -welldone- they have patched up the exhaust for now untill I can get a new one No charge   They had a quick look at the Auto hubs as well and could not find anything wrong and they confirmed that the front drive arms are working to the front wheels  :?: They can not say what it is unless I leave it with them for the day. Can't aford that at the moment so any ideas :?: Thank to you all again
Wendy
