Hi All, we've had threads for this below but can't remember much about it. Is it some kind of Heater Plug relay below battery that makes the noise when it wont start? anyone any idea of price?

For what it's worth here's my two pennorth.
If the engine rotates when you turn the key but doesn't start, could be a pre-heater relay problem.
If you hear the 'clicking'/'buzzing' when you turn the key but the starter doesn't engage and the engine doesn't turn over could be a sick starter solenoid or just a bad earth connection.
First point of call for me would be to clean the battery connections.
If that doesn't work try shorting out the starter power supply connections with a stout screwdriver - beware there will be some sparks.
If the engine turns over, then the solenoid is not engaging the starter gear with the flywheel and providing the starter with power and needs some attention.

coudl it even be the usual cable broken where it enters the terminal? the remaining strands not passing enough current to turn the engine just click the solenoids? but the captain is right his advice is more thorough i just cant be arsed o type that much :augie

Def not starter as it turned. I've seen people post on here before about a heater plug relay under battery that buzz's. Anyway Nissan dealer quoted for £41.51 for it so I might order it today. Cars been like this for a good year and never been able to track it down. The odd time during cold weather it does this but normally you just keep plugs on for longer before cranking it. Battery measured 12.54 so I gave it a charge for the after noon which brought it up to a little over 13v straight after charging. It turned over a little slow and then fired up but before I cranked it I listened again and sure enough the relay was making the noise.

Well this noise is still there and it's more of a crackle. There isn't a relay below battery but there is a glow plug relay to the right of the battery just inside the inner wing but that isn't where the noise is coming from. The noise is only there when ignition turned on and is def in engine bay possibly from glow plug area. Could a faulty glow plug make a crackling noise? or could it be some other kind of relay.
Oh treated her to a new battery but that aint worked either.

Help
