Hi All,

The cigarette lighter socket in my 97 T2 seems larger than the normal size, things such as phone chargers do not stay in.

Is this normal or does mine have a faulty socket.

What have others done to overcome this.

Is it easy to replace with a standard size socket?

Cheers

Thought there was only one size???? my factory fit is fine and is def same size as a pair I bought from halfords that I fitted in boot.

Hi Hewey, have you tryed bending out the springy things on the side of your plug 8O
Might be that simple
I've had a few plugs that were a little loose but mademfit with some screwdriver action 8)

just pull your fuse or disconnect your battery before prying over the tabs, you could easy short positive to earth . "PoP" 8O

socket should be standard but have had differing sized plugs.

some only have one sprung contact, possibly american design.

that said my regular cb plug is prone to jumping out. solution
push it into socket with a match stick along side which creates
a nice friction fit.

that said my other uk plugs, for tomtom and invertor will stay
in there all day.

Cheers for the reply's chaps,

The plug for bot my phone and GPS locator charger fit fine in our other cars so suspect a problem with the socket itself.

Is it an easy item to change, I would of though it just pop's out and unplugs.?

ive changed them and fitted them on other cars. it just unplugs and slots out. no bother to change.

I think you will find that you will need to take the facia off, as the unit is not just a push-in . The plastic part that holds the illuminating light bulb is a " twist-lock" , holding the metal socket part in place in the dash.
Hope that makes sence and helps ........ Matt.

my old Mav was like this I had to wrap tape around the body of any plug I was using to fill out the hole, however my 97 T2 is fine...manufacturers tolerance? Or could be broken!
