Christmas Day Workshop Time?

While everyone else went for kids present opening at one of the Stepsons houses I did my chores left for me written on a PostIt note and hit the workshop with a mild hangover.

I partially reassembled a scooter that needs more parts and money spent than it's worth and parked it outside with a cover over and rolled the bike bench under one of the cars in my Transport museum. Scooter needs a fork yoke as a bare minimum if not a frame........See photo I tried to re-orientate 3 times in various ways.

Swept up, cleared the tools away and then refitted the rear seat squabs I took out to get a freebie bench in the back. Had a bit of a sniff round to see where the wet dog smell is coming from and took all the over mats out. Close inspection shows Terrier hair embedded in the upholstery that must be pre 2005 before my friend bought the car and it does have damp areas inside. :down:

Bought the car inside and shut up shop as the tribe came home for present time. :hmh#

Good man!!! I was up early this morn to go and see my Nan & Grandad with my brother and sister before she was collected for Xmas dinner at my Uncles house this year.

Then back over to Solihull to an Xmas dinner and a day with the girlfriends family and didn't get home until 10:30pm the worst part about it I haven't even opened any presents yet from the girlfriend :lol We're doing ours in the morning :clap

So upon arrival at Banshee HQ I dipped straight off into the garage to do a few jobs, I've been fettling with more insulation for the underneath of the rubber floor cover for my Commercial and then sprayed a few more plastic bits with Vinyl Dye, then I just put some music on in there and had a tidy up and relaxed.

I needed to get back to my garage, I feel at peace in there and hate being hemmed inside with no fresh air.

My wife went for a theme this year, I got the car, then a Train, and when I mentioned the classic Christmas film, "Trains, Planes and Automobiles", she did this!!

Since the Plane was already assembled, I set to work making the Train..

I did virtually nothing at all, thought a lot about my projects but thinking along the lines of off loading all my projects such as the MG and common sense dictates one of the Terranos too. So making plans for that so just mentally doing jobs rather than physically doing anything.

Both laid low with Christmas Cold type bug.

We started feeling crap on Christmas eve, yesterday we did not have Christmas Dinner as we just could not face eating much - ended up with a Beefburger in a Bun!

Today all aches & pains suitably drugged up with Soluble Solpadeine. Crap

A very quiet day yesterday, just the 2 of us....

Today was stuffed, as we fancied a walk, even in the grey damp day it is, but then realise, my permanent nightmare beckoned.......the bloody faulty window regulator on SWMBO's Renault Megane........

A built in design flaw, that Renault belatedly acknowledged years later, then told everyone to p##s off, allows water ingress down the window glass, and blows the 'temic' module (regulates the window winder mechanism).......this will be the 4th one I've tried to replace/repair, on a 05 car with less than 70k on the clock.

Replacement modules are inexpensive from fleabay, but a royal pain removing the door card......and the amount of corrosion in the main loom plug into this, means a new plug, soldered onto the old leads....ggggrrrrrrr

So window is locked down, plastic sheet and duck tape over the large hole, and she has to borrow the tractor or use the bus, until I get it fix ASAP after new years day !!!!!!!

So, I think it will be a few 'Nelson's Bloods' for me tonight in recompense for a stuffed up day.......:nenau

Annoying when the reset procedure doesn't work! I like the MkV Golf where you remove the door skin to access the inner gubbins, neat idea and good for bodywork repairs. Then again, if the motors and door locks were better built and lasted longer than a set of spark plugs.......

Spent some more time on the Terrano today in between fixing other peoples junk. :banghead

Bit more welding on the housing then flush the block and radiator out. Thermostat and housing are now fitted to the engine with stainless cap heads. Checked the old and new thermostats in hot water, old one opens slightly quicker than the new one and does open fully which isn't what I was expecting to see. I'm still in head gasket denial. :augie

Block flush was surprisingly clean as was the radiator but the flow through the radiator didn't seem very good. As the thermostat seemed to be ok perhaps the radiator is partially blocked causing the temperature to rise in traffic. Ended up taking the bottom tank off the radiator and rodding each tube, now have a good clear flow through all but 1 tube that seems to have a manufacturing defect.

I will try running the car tomorrow with the viscous fan and see if the symptoms have improved then look at fitting the electric fans.

Been advancing our new utility room, worktops cut and machined, water pipe for two washing machines and table top dish washer in cable run in ready for electrics, more hopefully tomorrow unless I get a call, Rick

No but I will have some power sockets for charging my multitude of battery tools, as I am very forgetful and often leave batteries and chargers in customers premises, hope this will get round that, and I have big vice on bench in barn, Rick
