hello all, due to circumstances I have had to replace my 1997 nissan terrano II 2.7 td with a 2001 nissan terrano II sport. The new one looks to be mostly good but has crap road tyres which will need changing soon, the old one has a full set of nearly new grabber at2 tyres. Only thing is the new one has 235/70/R16 tyres (which are recommended by nissan on the instructions next to the drivers seat) and the old one has 235/75/r15 tyres.
Does anyone know whether there'd be any problems changing the tyre size (looks like the brake drums are slightly bigger on the new one so might be a tight fit) and would I need to tell the insurance company? Thanks, Rob Stringer

They will swap mate :thumb2 No modification needed, deffo tell the insurance company

do you mean using the old 15" rims and tyres on the new terrano?

They should fit fine :)

I thought I read somewhere that while they fit, because the brakes are bigger, and take up more room inside the wheel, they get less air around them, and can get over heated in certain applications/usage. So best stay away from towing.

Doesnt sound good, i use it for towing all the time (usually short distances and no more than 1.5 tonnes) has anyone experienced this problem?

I've towed trailers loads of times and had 15" modulars installed and I've had no heat problems, I think that's trivial

I can't find the post on here, it may have been on one of the caravan forums I was on, as I read it a fair time ago.

The reason I think it was on here is I was thinking of using the wife's 15 inch wheels from her very old T1, on my 99 T2, that has 16, as she had AT tyres at the time, and I just had road going. I remember reading that the front Rotors would keep warping, and the rear drums would start binding up, so decided against it.

Wait and see what other people say on here.

Might well be, but as I say, I know I read it somewhere, and thought I would mention it.

My mate went from 16's to 15's on his T2 which was used every day & used to tow his old heavy caravan & there was never any problems with cooling to the brakes:thumbs if the drums are bigger on the later ones it won't be by much poss 10mm:nenau as for the difference in tyres sizes they both work out roughly the same:thumbs

Gone down to 15 from 16 on mine with no problem.

Thanks for the replies, so sounds like it should be fine but someone out there had brake issues. Would seem like a waste of 5 good tyres not to use them so i'll try them out.

Tried one of the 235/75/R15's on the rear wheel position on the nissan terrano sport, only just fits over the brake drums at the outer side of the wheel and maybe 1" or so space on the inside. Was wondering if maybe the sport model has bigger brake drums than others made at the time and this could affect whether smaller wheels are suitable. The posts above have made me wonder..

cant see the drums or discs being different within the same generation of trucks.

the sport model isnt actually more sporty is it?

I'm suprised the parts are bigger across generation to generation but maybe Nissan
took advantage of bigger parts once there was more clearance.

Pity they didn't stick discs on the rears.....
