Hi all, I have bought new shocks, started to try and change front ones but front lower fixing was solid. Can anyone confirm tool sizes and method of changing front and rear? I know it's pretty basic stuff but I am struggling. Spoke to local garage who quote £120 labour to change 4 free issue shocks.

just did mine think it was 17mm socket on the bottom bolt might need nice big 1/2" knockle bar on the inside its a captive nut and 14mm for top 17mm for both top and bottom for the rear shocks:thumbs

Use a good socket, one thats like a spark plug socket fits best. Dont use a socket thats got multi point holding, it could round off the nut.

Turn it slowly and addd some heat if you can. I did mine on Saturday and even though they looked knackerd they cleaned up really well.

If you have to tap it on a little its better as it holds more. Failing that if you round it off, weld a good sized nut on top and start again.

Thanks both for your help, I appreciate it. I will get some half decent kit and give it a go!

Just get the grinder out

Dont go any where near the rear with a grinder or the front bottom bolt.:doh

The front bottom nut is captive and if you cut it off then you will never get the bolt out and the rear bolt are fixed to the truck so if you cut them off you wont get the new shocks to stay on at all. ;)

Morning Mucker,
The best way is getting some Heat on it, I don't have Oxy Bottles but have had success with my plumbers Blow torch the Type with a Smaller pointed nozzle !

And they are not that expensive at any Plumbers Merchant or B & Q etc,

Failing that try a Nut Splitter !

Good luck

Heat is always good for old rusty nuts, but to be honest mine, even though they looked like they had been at the bottom of the ocean for 20 years, came off really easy. Just make sure its a good 6 sided socket and not a muilt hold socket.
