I guess this has been asked dozens of times but.... what is the easiest way to change the drive gaiter on the T2?... I have used the 'split type' boot/gaiter which you glue but they seem to leak a tiny bit along the seams? (MOT due in september so sussing out how much work I will need to do!!) I have got proper ones but that needs the drive shafts out to do :eek::eek:.... so do you have to remove the entire hub and brake assembly/upright by splitting the ball joints etc (suppose it would be a good excuse to renew the upper and lower ball joints?) or can you drop the drive shaft from the rear by undoing from the drive flange at the diff? I was even wondering if you could undo the drive shaft end, turn onto full lock and then pull the shaft from the drive spindle in the hub and put the new boot back onto the shaft and then shove the drive shaft back in :nenau:nenau:nenau

When I find some interesting items, I usually cut and paste the bit into my maverick file, if you do a search using CV Boot, you find this posted by makeitfit.

Hope it helps, best regards, Rustic

The bolts onto the diff flanges are nice ones that come off a treat, even up the scrap yard

Drive shaft off the flange and undo the hub end as usual drop top ball joint and have a wriggle
It does come out just

Or sticky boots
I have also just changed mine using the diy stick together method!!! Excellent bit of kit if you take your time and keep it all very clean (never easy given where it is situated) however an hour or 2 a side and hey presto new cv boots and new grease

I did buy the 'take the driveshaft off and slip over a greased cone type' (looks soooo easy on the you tube vid clip) but thought I would try the lazy way 1st

would deffo use the glue ones again and yes less than £15 a side

Thanks for that.... nto sure whether to try sticky ones again or remove the shaft...... both sides seem to have tiny drops of grease along the seam as I guess there is a pin sized gap in the glueing? Certainly found the sticky ones easy last time so might give them a go again (and be much more liberal with the glue this time :thumb2)as I dont relish the thought of taking front suspension apart :(

It was probably easier for me as the front suspension has been taken apart so often it almost does it itself  Maybe that's the trouble :lol

When I had a Mini and I did them, dirt had got into the CV joint, so a complete strip down and clean and regrease was the only option.

If the CV's are still clean and dry then the sticky boot should be ok, provided that you don't want to do any wading.
