Finally got around to it?
got 1.5 litres in but it seems to be full?
Is it just a case of letting it settle?

if its the rear diff I thought it should be 2.8 litres......can anyone who's done it recently confirm?

I just measured what came out and only it was only 1.5litres? with drainage plug undone and filling plug undone left for approx 30 min until it stopped dripping?
any ideas?

I got almost 3 litres of LSD oil into my rear diff last week... you just keep filling until it starts dribbling out of the filler (on level ground).

If only 1.5 litres came out then whoever replaced it last time didn't put enough in.

There is no way it will take anymore?? after leaving for 2hrs it's still nice and level with the filler as soon as I try and put more in it just pours out?? only approx 1.5lts???

Could it be a different diff?

If so!!! Have I used the correct oil???

We are talking about the rear diff, right ?

The front diff is only 1.3 litres IIRC, but the rear is definitely 2.8

Ahhh, just noticed the "3.0" under your avatar... I wonder if the diff on the newer models is different ?

As long as the rear diff is the one beetwen the rear wheels then I think it's correct?
(it did cross my mind also that I made a mistake as the amount for the front is 1.4ltr)

Only I could cock something so simple up????

Rear diff on some later models is a C200 not a H233B - C200 has a removable cover on the back, I'm not sure what the capacity is but you could probably find out with a bit of googling.

For comparison H233B has nuts and studs at the front and s a thrid member type where the diff is removed comlete with its carrier etc. On the C200 the diff is dismatled insitu and removed in ppiece out of th eback of the axle casing.

Not sure why they changed them the H233B is a far stronger superior axle set up

Thanks! it does have a removable cover on the back? Just my luck?

I think the capacity must be around 1.5ltrs or 1.4lts (not sure?? lost quite a bit trying to get 2.8 in??????) No luck googling but roughly the same amount went in that came out so it should be fine?

Hopfully the oil should be the same??

Took a little findig but I can report
Oil capacity (Approx.) L (US pt, lmp pt) 1.3 (2-3/4, 2-1/4)

Oil spec wise it says
Standard differential gear: API GL-5
Viscosity SAE 80W-90*3
Limited-slip differential (LSD) gear:
Use only LSD gear oil API GL-5 Viscosity
SAE 80W-90*3 approved for
NISSAN LSD*4.

Which is the same.

Thanks Terranosaurus,

I put in Silkolene Boa 90LS, Any good? will it be OK?:nenau

The spec says
"Boa 90 LS is a High Performance mineral based gear oil for hypoid and spiral bevel axles, which has excellent extreme
pressure, anti-corrosion, anti-oxidant and anti-foam properties. This unique formula contains friction modifiers designed to
make Boa 90 LS ideal for limited slip differentials operating under severe conditions including competition use.
Very high levels of the latest load carrying and antiwear agents give API GL5 and GL6 performance.

Just looked at my Diff and it has a bolt on plate at the back.
So maybe it is the 3ltr ones have the differant axle.

Aye Boa 90LS will do te trick - were did you buy that its normally sold as a competition oil. Think I've got some on my van for a customer as it happens.

Not just 3.0L ones as I've seen the C200 on 2.7s too.

After trying all the local auto spares shops without much success, Mainly got:nenau or this will do? non LSD??

Believe it or not? Got it from a Local Land Rover specialist!!! He was the only guy who new what he was talking about?
Cost me £10 a Litre (bought 3 litres:doh)

your not the only one scratching his head over tne 2.8 quantity my t2 2.7 will only squeeze in 1.5lt. any way i put in what came out and all seems fine.
